Meditation or yoga, or both?

I've been struggling with an increase in my anxiety recently and I've been trying to find ways to curb that anxiety without having to ask my doctor for medication for it. I've tried that route before and didn't have much success, so I'm hoping to avoid that route this time, assuming I can find something else that works. One of the things I've read about, and I believe doctors have mentioned before, is meditation. Particularly mindful meditation. It's something I've only briefly tried, so I can't say that it works or doesn't work. I'm willing to try it again, and for a longer period of time, especially if it turns out to help at all. The biggest problem for me is going to be making the time for it. There isn't a quiet spot in my house once my kids get home until they go to bed, which limits me to trying it before they get home or right before bed. Have you tried meditation? Does it seem to help? I've also had yoga recommended to me, and am debating on trying that too, or instead of. I'm not really sure if yoga would provide the same benefits as meditation, or if it would be similar but not the same. I haven't really tried yoga before, and can't really afford to take a class, so I'd have to learn by either book or video. I'm not sure if I could do that or not. Meditation alone might be easier to learn, but if the combination gives me the best results, it might be worth trying it. Have you done yoga before? Is it something I could learn the basics of by myself?

I can't help with your questions but I hope someone can. I believe there are numerous videos on starting out with yoga but I don't know about meditation.

I think there's videos for both. The hardest part for me on either is making the time to do it.

@JudyEv I would probably be more likely to attend a class once I've paid for it, but unfortunately there is no room in my budget to pay for a class right now.

@fawkes62 Yes, if you're going out to these things you're more likely to attend I think than if it is just a matter of putting on a video.

You can learn the basics of all things yourself and this might help you. Some just like have others be part of the experience.

I prefer to do any type of exercise by myself, so that is what I'm planning on doing. The biggest problem is making the time for it.

I've not tried either meditation or yoga, but I hope that one or both of them will be of help to you.

Thank you. I've tried meditation a little bit, but not enough to know if it will work for me or not. I'm struggling with making the time to do it.

I've never tried either one but you can always check out youtube for videos on how to do either one.

I have not done it, but sounds like a really good idea. You should give it a try. Good luck

@fawkes62 I have thought about that too, but those people are really flexible and I am not.

@mom210 I'm not flexible either, but I've been told it's really good for stress, so I'm thinking of giving it a try.

I've tried meditation a little bit, but not enough to know if it works. I keep thinking about trying yoga, but haven't made the time to try it yet.

I hope either or both work for you. I have only tried meditating when it was a fad years ago. However, yoga is a wonderful exercise. You can probably find how to do the basics online through videos. Perhaps your library or high school offers low cost classes.

I've looked a little bit online, but need to look some more. Once I find something that looks doable, I need to make the time to actually do it.
