Do you rely on the groundhog's predictions?

In some parts of the country the groundhog supposedly saw his shadow today, turned around and went back to bed, predicting that winter will last for another six weeks. It is rather funny to think about this, as we all know winter will last at least another six weeks, as that only brings us to the middle of March. And in my experience, March can be a cold, blustery month. So even though the sun was shining here this morning, I am sure we will have lots of winter weather yet. In fact, we are expecting snow tonight, changing to freezing rain, then rain tomorrow. So, Mr Groundhog, enjoy your six more weeks of sleeping.

Poor marmot, I think it's cruel to wake it up in the middle of the winter just for this ceremony. Of course Spring will not start until the 21st of March.

@sugartoes Some years are colder and others warmer, but if we look at the trees and the flowers, they know when it's time to bloom, this means that Spring has arrived.

You are right, his predictions don't matter

I think that March can be miserably cold. I rely on the sky and pretty much go on a day by day basis, and sometimes shorter.

@AnneEJ I was talking to a customer in Nepean today and he told me that they had ice this morning. It felt like a spring day today, it was 11 degrees on my way into work this morning.

I some times see the ceremony but then forget which happened. It is what it is. And, my memory is what it is.

I did not realize that the groundhog sees or doesn't see his shadow differently in different parts of the world. I never even thought about it like that. I think it is just a fun little tradition either way, nothing I take seriously.

@AnneEJ It's fun now and then to have "news" that's not about who is killing whom.

No the whole idea is pretty silly to me. We had one of the worst ice storms ever in our area in March a few years ago.

I never understood why people make such a big deal with Mr Groundhog. Spring will still be coming to us. From the forecast I have read this morning, next week is shaping up to be another cold one with possible snow storms for much of the middle and eastern parts of the country. Imagine that, snow and cold in the winter. I could have predicted that!!! LOL Have a blessed day.

All I know about the groundhog's predictions is what I've seen in the movie Groundhog Day.

Other groundhogs didn't see their shadow, but which one do you believe. I don't go for this lore but it is kinda fun to see what the different communities will have their ground see or don't see.
