When you hear of a glass beach, what do you think? Glass that litter's a beach? Well your right. It is a beach made of glass. Here you can get some nice smooth colored pieces of glass to make whatever you want or just use it for a souvenir. The beach use to not be that way through. Back in 1906, the Fort Bragg's resident's mad a dump site that is call today as Site 1. This is where they discarded glass, appliances, and vehicles. In 1943 they filled in Site 1 and moved the dump to what is known today as Site 2. The dump remained there until 1949 when filled it in and moved the dump north to what is now known as The Glass Beach. The dump remained there until 1967, when the California Gate Water Resources Control Board and City Leaders closed it. There were some clean up programs through the years to try to correct the damage done. Over the years the glass and pottery were broken down by waves from the river. It was broken into smooth and colored pieces. People who have visit the beach say it nice to visit and if you want to see it you have to go at low tided. I would recommend that if you are in the area of Fort Bragg's, California that you take the time to visit the glass beach because it is fast disappearing. People have been taking the glass for souvenir's and even jewelry company's are taking some as well, so I do recommend you visit it before it is gone.
What do you think about the glass beach and would you want to visit it?
