“Wie die Alten sungen, so zwitschern auch die Jungen.” This translates to: “As the old ones sing, so chirp the young ones.”
What this means is that the young ones will copy the older people. They follow the examples that are set for them, by their parents, in particular, and by others, such as teachers and instructors.
If you want your children to grow up to be kind, show them kindness in all its aspects.
If you want your children to grow up to be honest, law-abiding adults, set the example by always being honest and law-abiding yourself.
If you want your children not to use foul language, don’t use foul language.
Simple things like this can help you to raise your children to be adults who will make you proud.
As children grow up, they learn most of their manners and “lessons in life” from their parents. As their responsibilities increase, they learn how to handle different situations. Most parents want their children to be respectful to others, especially to older persons, who deserve respect.
How you treat other people and how you speak to other people will set the example for your children to follow.
Your example is the MOST important factor in training your children to be respectful, kind and honest adults. Never forget that.

You are absolutely bright, parents can't tell their kids to do something one way then turn around and do it the other way and expect that their kids should do what they are told. I think a lot of parents fail to realize that they are the ones their kids first learn from and whatever they learn from their parents it will sticky with them.
