I decided to change my username to my real name along with a picture of me

I have always been afraid to use my real name in hee, but others are doing it, and so I figure that I might as well use mine too. I figured that if others could put their names and where they live in here, then I would too. I don't feel funny for having done it either, as I figured that othes might like to know what my real name is, and what I look like. I do think it is nice when we can actually see the people that we are interacting with. It makes it easier I think. I know that some will fudge their name and location, but I didn't as I don't want to lie. It doesn't pay to lie anyway. I know this is a short discussion, but I don't have a lot to say except that I am now using my own name and what I look like. BTW, I just took that picture a bit ago on my phone.

I like to talk to 'real' people too. I'm glad you're using your real name and photo.

Thank you for saying so, and I am glad too. I figured if others can do it, then I can do it too. I am not scared about privacy either, as if somone wants to find me, they will regardless.

@rosekiss There's not much chance of hiding nowadays if someone really wants to find you.

@JudyEv That is what I am thinking too. Prvacy only goes so far, and if someone needs to find another person for whatever reason, then they will find them no matter what.

Many people avoid using their real name because they have been constantly warned about giving away personal data online, which does sometimes lead people to become paranoid. In reality supplying your own name does not constitute any issue whatsoever. There are probably many people with the exact same name, so it cannot be considered sensitive information. Personally I only use a username because I prefer the name, although I have no reluctance to give my full name online, which is Barry Chadwick.

@rosekiss I suppose that it could be a concern if we shared a name with some notorious person, otherwise it is academic.

@Asylum That does make sense for sure. I just hope there is't another one out there with my name that is a criminal. that would be awful, but I am not worried at this point.

Nice to meet you Barry. You just keep the one you have, as if you like it then, don't change. I do agree that using our real names shouldn't be an issue, unless things have happened in our past where it isn't beneficial to use it. I am not concerned at at all.

Most people don't and that is fine too, as some like to and others don't. I just decided that others are doing it here, and it does make it more personal anyway, as others know what I look like, and what my name is. I am not worried about privacy, as if I am to be found, I will be found regardless.

I use my real face, but not my real name. I'm a little paranoid because I was stalked for several years.

Under those conditions, I can certainly understand why you wouldn't use your name. I don't think I would either, if that ever happened to me. I do like the name you chose though, as it does fit you.

@rosekiss Thanks. The name Elizabeth shows up in my family tree in almost every line, some of them often. The last name is in both sides of my family tree. It's from Scotland originally.

Well, that is okay. In my case, I could put my city and state, and I am surprised it was listed, but it was. It is okay, if you didn't want to use your real name, as others haven't etiher. I just decided to, so others know who I really am, and what I look like.

I never thought of that before, but you are right. It is up to each individual whether they choose to use their own name or a username. It matters not. I just decided to do it so people would know who they are interacting with, in other words put a face with a name.

@simone10 I know what you mean, as I don't think mine are all that great either. There is no one here to take any of me, so I take my own, and I don't think they look all that great, but I leave them, as I just can't seem to get it right. The one I have on here though is better than most I have taken.

I grew up in Indiana, got married there, moved to Hawaii in the 80's, left there after a year and a half, and then we moved to Oregon. In 1994, my husband at the time and I, moved to Vancouver, WA, where he sitll is to this day. After he asked me for a divorce, then I came back to Oregon, as my son and family live in Oregon. My daugher now lives in St. Lousi, MO. As you can see we have been around.
