I'm taking my son to watch a movie for the first time tomorrow

I'm a movie buff. My husband also loves watching movies. In a joint family system like ours, we don't normally get much relaxation time. But tomorrow we have decided to go to the movie. There is a successful boxing movie (Tamil) running in the theaters. (Even Mike Tyson had wanted to watch the movie and had sent a message to the hero of the movie). So if Mike Tyson wants to watch this movie with sub titles, I wouldn't want to miss this, would I? The dilemma was whether to take my son or not. He has never seen a movie on tv let alone in a movie hall. But now, he is three and I'm convinced that he is ready to explore the world with his mum and dad. So we are taking him with us tomorrow. I'm curious to see his reaction to the darkness and the noise. Is he going to cry and get out? or is he going to be enthralled by the sights and sounds. If he can manage till the intermission, I might bribe him with some coffee and cookies. I'm ready to take the risk. I want him to know that amazing movie experience. Besides such family movies are hard to come by these days in Tamil. When was the first time you took your child out for a movie?

I don't have any children. The first time I was ever taken to see a film at the pictures was Return of the Jedi back in the mid eighties...still remember it now and still love the film too

I also had such a worry when I brought my son to watch TV when he was little. I suggest you bring some snacks and drinks so that he will not feel so bored. Children like eating. And I think he will enjoy eating when he watches the movie. But I wonder why not choose a cartoon movie at first?

Surprisingly he doesn't watch too many cartoons. He loves music and dance and our movies are filled with them. Lets see what happens tomorrow.

@youless We love dance and drama. Especially in our culture even our grandparents dance at their age.

I'm not sure Mike Tyson would be my movie critic of choice, but enjoy your time out with your son.

Tyson wants to watch it just because it is based on boxing. I don't think of him a movie critic either.

I think our daughter was about 4 when we took her to the movies the first time. She was always a calm child and did very well. We have thought about taking our 4 year old granddaughter to the movies, but she is not as calm a child as her mother was. She rarely sits still at home long enough to watch anything for very long. I think we will wait a little longer with her!

My son too easily becomes restless. That's why we have been postponing this till now. But how will I know if he can sit still unless I test him?

I don't have kids so i can't relate. Fom my experience as a kid trying the first time watching a movie in a theater was a bit scared because of the dark but didnt cry anyhow.

I never took my son to a movie when he was still a child because i myself is not fond of going to theaters. We watch DVD's at home instead.
