I doubt I can manage 6 different currencies in a single trip

When I check some of the cruises that start in one country, and end in another country, I start to realize that I may not like to manage 6 different currencies in a single trip. As a tourist in foreign land, I always have to convert the amount to my local currency. If the price of a given item costs more than at home, I will definitely not want to buy. The cruise currency is usually in USD. That means I have to mentally convert the money to local currency before I book any shore excursion or get beverage package. When a cruise starts in Australia, and reaches my home town, Singapore, via Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam, that means I have to manage US Dollar, Australia Dollar, Thai Baht, Malaysia Ringgit, Vietnam Dong, and Indonesia rupiah. Returning home with the spare change in 6 different currencies is no joke!

If you have been to Asian countries, you will know that most places do not accept credit card. It is impossible to use a credit card in the weekend market when you have to bargain for the best price.

At first, you can just convert little cash. And you pay all the payment by credit card if it is possible. My credit card allows me to pay it as foreign currency. Besides, I have a debit card which is quite useful for me to have a travel. Since I can withdraw cash from the local ATM and it will not charge me extra fee at all. But I can do it once everyday. If I have to withdraw cash twice in a day and it will charge me for the second time. It is good enough since I don't have to withdraw cash so often. This is quite useful. Since I couldn't convert any Russian currency even if in Hong Kong before I travelled there. And I could have Russian currency when I arrived in the airport since I found an ATM there.

If you are traveling to places like Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia, you are better off having cash! It will limit on your spending, and you feel safer not giving out your credit card or debit card to anyone.

Not really. Over here, most of us travel at least once a year, and so it becomes quite commonplace.

So that is the problem indeed . I think we have to ask the others who have taken a cruise already and how they managed it .. Calling Wilmah

I think some people manage it very well by not shopping. They just take the cruise tour and then they go back to the ship without buying anything. For us who want to buy something for friends and relatives, it is hard not to change any money.

@scheng1 Yes, i guess that's the reason . But then , it's hard not to buy a thing we see to our liking .
