Winter Wonderland Challenge

Alfredo Rossi has challenged us to post Winter Wonderland Photos. We have had a grand total of about 3 inches of snow here in the Chicago area. So I had to go look at my photos of winter from years gone by. In 2011 we had a huge snow storm that shut down much of our area. My youngest son was attending Purdue University Calumet in Hammond Indiana. The school shut down for a week if I remember right. Many of the dorm kids were stuck at school with nothing to do. So a bunch of my sons friends and he decided to build an igloo. And a fine job they did, there were engineering students so it better be good lol. It was so strong 2 of the guys could stand on the top without breaking it. My son said it stood the rest of the winter.

@fishtiger58 I have photos in an album of 31 inches of snow - our last snow in 2001 before we moved south..that was enough for us.

That is an impressive igloo. We built one when we were kids but we could not get the roof right, we were not engineers in training lol

@fishtiger58 NO , we were really good at walls but miserable at roofs lol more like a fort in the end.

That was a good productive use of their time. We don't really have a winter wonderland except perhaps a wet wonderland but that's only in July/August.

Me either, certainly not a well built igloo. It was pretty cool they even built benches along the wall inside. Those engineering students are so clever. My son however is currently getting his PhD in Astrophysics. The had fun building it.

Wow, that is awesome! My son's cat made his first igloo, too, in one of those big storms. It didn't look as good as your son's! No snow here, so I am out of the challenge.

Three inches? Wow! We've got a lot more than that, and I will have a picture to show as soon as I get them back from Walgreen's. Your picture of the igloo is amazing. It shows a great deal of skill on the part of those who built it and to stand the entire winter shows it also stood the test of time. Great job to your son and his fellow students.
