On Life and Death

This is what a friend wrote me recently and after some thought, I think that it may be the closest to what I feel within me to be the truth about life and death. “We are all eternal. Our bodies are merely temporary, corruptible husks in which our souls dwell for a while so that we – as individual, unique sparks of the divine – may move, learn, work and grow on the earthly plane. Once the learning and work we needed to do this time around is complete, we escape our physical bodies (in what we call death) and return home in our purely spiritual, eternal form”. Clearly, he believes that we return many times something that I too feel makes sense. We have to remember too of course, that our little earth is but a speck of dust in the great cosmos. I know it is all a great mystery and religion has been talking about it from the beginning but there is much in religion that I cannot accept. The golden rule is found in all of the major world religions and if practiced would mean almost heaven on earth. How do you feel about this? Are you an atheist, agnostic or religious in some way? Perhaps you feel much as I do.

Would that not be wonderful if we could all attain perfection in our treatment of others. Unfortunately human nature seems at odds with this goal.

@Morleyhunt We are not perfect but we must keep moving in that direction as that is what God wants of us.
Matthew 5:48 New International Version (NIV)
48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Somehow, I am a misfit. I am born Hindu. But I do find things that are very difficult to digest (like you). So I have stopped following any particular religion per se. What I feel is that I should do things the way I should. The Lord has given me a heart, a brain to make use of and decide what I should and what I should not do. I believe that Humanity, Love and Brotherhood is what is my religion. I cannot say that I dont hurt anyone, as it becomes very difficult to get something done without hurting someone at least. So I have to ignore that part, but still note that my action if hurting does minimum hurt

It is a little too early for such deep thoughts for me but I will say I am not a church goer but I do have faith and beliefs. I believe my soul will live on but I won't know that for sure until I die, so I'm not going to worry about it quite yet.

I believe that when we die , we go back to our Creator . Something to look forward when we die .
