It's a holiday here in our country, Chinese New Year

I do not know why Philippines is part of the Chinese New Year and make this day a holiday, no work , no class nationwide. I do not know the mind set of our government, I cannot understand our government wasting time and making works stocked up because of this single day.
No matter how the reason is well-explained by anyone here, but my feeling remains the same the dislikeness of the idea to have made this day and all the rest of the years as long as there is Chinese New Year, there is also legal holiday in Philippines.
Many told me that Chinese are so numerous in Philippines and the government pay respect to their celebration. For me, they better go home to China during Chinese New Year and celebrate their new year there.
I am just sharing my sentiment my Chinese friends here, no personal matter.

Philippines is not a part of China. It is an independent country like many other countries. But it is better to think that we are more like friends rather than enemies. There are some foreign festivals in my country, too. And we all like it. But I know I will like it more if it can be an official holiday in my country. Just think about how nice it will be if we can have a day off in Christmas The Chinese New Year is just like Christmas. It is the most important festival for Chinese.

Even if what is happening between China and the Philippines, I still cannot make them all like enemies. There are nice Chinese as well. But of course, I cannot make you change your mind cause that's your thought and I respect that. For me, the holiday is fine cause I earn 30% plus for working on this day. Happy New year!

@cacay1 Maybe because we have Fil-Chinese friendship. As you can see, there are lots of Chinese national here and they even have China town.
I'm sorry to hear that you do not have 30% additional, why is that? Is that goes to all university professor?

@shameigene, good for you there is additional percentage of your salary. Mine as a university professor, remains the same...What I do not like is why our country is part of their celebration when that is Chinese New year and made legal holiday???
