The Singing Pilgrim

Sometimes I just jabber when my mind is occupied or overtaxed. Sometimes my jabbering comes out in snatches of musical blathering. And so I began this morning, warbling "oh my, oh my, who put gin in the pie?" This caused The Man to look at me quizzically. "It's an old song the Pilgrims used to sing", I told him. Which got me to wondering whether or not the Pilgrims did sing. I mean, they were very austere and no-nonsense kind of people. I am sure they would never sing silly songs about gin in the pie. But my research confirms that they did like to sing, though they didn't have much in the way of musical instruments (usually just a drum to call the village to a meeting). They mostly sang psalms and such, but they did like to sing. But I bet there was at least one crazy person who occasionally sang nonsense songs to herself when no one was around, there's always one in every crowd. Do you sing when no one is around?

I sing weird songs when I am home alone, especially when I am busy cooking. I usually sing in winter, when the windows are closed... better be careful.

Sometimes I sing in the summer when I am sitting out in the sun. What are they going to do about it?

@Rollo1 Of course they can do nothing, my neighbor already think that I am a bit nut because I talk to the birds and the cats, of course I am not "one of them", I come from another country.

Yes I do and me and hubs even sing back and forth at each other. He will sing a verse and wait for me to respond and sometimes my mind is somewhere else, it is funny!!

We do that too, except The Man doesn't know all the words to any song. He thinks lyrics are less important than the music. I know all the lyrics to every song.

I sometimes sing in the car when there is a song that I like on the radio. It used to embarrass my daughter when she was younger.

You're supposed to sing in the car. It keeps you happy so you don't feel like killing other drivers when they pull boneheaded moves.

@Rollo1 This is true. Unless you are listening to rap or heavy metal, then you might actually go after them.

I talk to myself but don't usually sing. Mostly I'm swearing at myself. Sometimes I don't like me at all.

I tend to call myself "dummy" quite a lot. My best laid plans are oft sent astray by my failure to do something important, so I know what you mean about verbally abusing yourself.

At least they let you sing, and that's a good thing. Singing is good for you.

I used to sing and loved it, but unfortunately, I have trouble with my esophagus and can't sing anymore. Missing it terribly.

That's too bad. Singing is fun. But I know you still enjoy music.

I do - often when I'm in the garden. The trouble is that I may only know a couple of lines of a song and I repeat them over and over.

My mother sang all the time and often didn't know all of the words. She would just fill in with "da-dee-dum" or some such when she got to a section she didn't know.

I give it a try now and then especially when i clean house, then I sing LOUD and probably very false. I normally sing songs from my youth as well, and ABBA or things I can sing.

For me that's the best time to sing. Occasionally I even sing in the shower

I do sing when no one is around but my dogs. I usually dance around a little bit and of course the dogs think it is all fun and dance around and bark also.

I sing when I'm in the kitchen but mostly they are our traditional songs. Sometimes I break into senseless songs when I'm extremely stressed.
