Money Woes

I have TOO many things to pay for in the next month. Kids' activities get expensive. And we don't even do anything competitive. We are doing a little more than we normally do. My son has to move to a more expensive baseball program because he has aged out of the YMCA program which is much more affordable. My daughter is trying a theater program that is pretty expensive. Those are the two unusual things. And they are giving me an ulcer.
Thankfully, my husband is working overtime this week. That should help. I am on the books to work at the catering company in a week or so for the first time in a month. This is their slow time. So I haven't been able to bring in any income. I hope it picks up soon. Otherwise, I really need to seek something else.
I'm working on our taxes. We will get a refund on Federal and one state, but will owe another state and local. Also, my fourteen year old son worked for the first time last year. The truly, truly crappy thing about that is they classified his job as 1099-misc income, i.e. a contractor. I'm in shock that they would do that to a kid who shouldn't really owe much in taxes, but now will have to deal with FICA. They really do screw the small business owner (which is technically what my 14 year old is due to the crummy employer). And actually, my catering income was classified the same way. So I a pretty hefty chunk came out of our refund due to that.
Anyway, I'm feeling a little overwhelmed & trying to remember to cook those frugal meals for the next few weeks to make up for all these extra expenses.

You're not alone @Jillybean1222. Some of us, including me (laugh), are experiencing a budget shortage. You must be thankful that you have job where you could earn money. Unlike me, I don't have.

i really don't have a job. i've been occasionally getting calls to work for this catering company. but it's not something i can count on. i haven't worked for a month. :-( but thankfully, my husband has a steady job. i'm sorry for your shortage as well! wouldn't it be nice if money weren't an issue?

@jillybean1222 times are tough all over. I know one of my girlfriends is real glad that her daughter just finished college so she can now have a bit of a breather from those expenses. We are forever pinching pennies here in Latvia and my hubby's kid are all grown up but still there always seems to be something to pay for. Wishing you the best of luck in your situation.

I know! I'm so annoyed about his taxes, even more than my own. He's a kid! now that we know, we'll make sure we put the money back next year. But seriously, we weren't expertly that at all

I have learned to be very creative in putting nutritious meals on the table when I have no or little money.

my kids will have to pay their own way. not everyone is well enough off to pay for college. and no, we don't have savings. we struggle financially.
