Waking up with the sunrise

Today is one of those days where I have to wake up early. I teach an 8 AM psychology class, and still have to enter grades from Monday's in-class assignment. I'm sipping my first cup of coffee, and finally sliding out of "I wish I was still in bed" mode and into "I look forward to being productive" mode. How long does it take you to get from one mode to the other? I'll attach a picture of the sunrise as it appeared from my front porch about 15 minutes ago.

Pretty sunrise. I have always been the same upon waking as I am during the day. I don't have a wake up mode, my hubby and son however sit around for 30 minutes waking up. I'm confused aren't you already awake.

This morning, I really wanted to stay in bad. I didn't have the heat on, so My bedroom was cool, but my comforter was over me, and I felt like a happy cucoon.

I get into waking mode pretty quickly once I'm out of bed. I start with the internet and my first cup of coffee. Then I get ready to soar.

Most mornings I lay in bed for another 5 minutes after the alarm goes off. This is a dangerous practice due to the fact that I have fallen asleep on more than one occasion. After I saunter to the kitchen and make the coffee, sit on the sofa, grab the laptop and take my meds. Then I sit for about 10 minutes and sip my coffee. I am not one to jump out of bed with my feet running. I like to ease into the day.

@TheHorse Our cat usually crawls up and plunks herself on my chest and taps my face until I wake. I get more than a bit grumpy when it is my day off.

I've fallen asleep again too. Since my snooze alarm is broken, what I do now is stumble into the kitchen, put the kettle on with lots of water in it, and then climb back into bed. When the kettle whistles, I accept that I have to get up, and go make my coffee.

As I get older, it takes me a bit longer to get out of bed and get moving in the morning--The earliest that I teach these days is at 10--as an aside--I am not too far from you--I am in Alameda--where do you teach??

@divalounger Sounds very cool! Do you do both individual instruction and chorus? I've sung in choruses that did Mozart's Great C-Minor mass, etc., but I never received any individual instruction in singing. I get jealous when I heard the kids in From the Top on the radio.

I'm in the zombie mode for the first two hours after I wake up. Everything happens in slow motion then. Even when I was working as an HR executive, I never met people until ten or eleven. Till then I would be checking and responding to mails and doing some other work. After ten I switch to being productive mode.

Today was a good day. I was an animal. Got a lot done. Even spied the first Indian Warriors of the Spring. But I'll post about that tomorrow.

@TheHorse I'm the same but since there is just two of us in the house there just isn't as much that I need to do lately. I'll be happy when spring is here and I can get outside more and play in the dirt.

Once I'm out of bed I'm good to go. It's the getting out of bed bit that I find difficult.

I was suddenly "good to go" about half way through my first cup of coffee. But getting out of bed was not easy.

Your sunrise looks a lot like mine at home in Canada. Beautiful colors with power lines in the shot. Before I got a Mac, I used an editing program called PhotoScape, a free download. Loved I could get rid of the lines. Now with the Mac I haven't found a program to do that with. Your photo is pretty, lines and all.

Interesting that such technologies exist. I always try to compose/crop/edit my nature photos to eliminate as much man-made stuff as I can, but I didn't know you can "delete" power lines.

That looks like an ambivalent sunrise and many of us are ambivalent about getting up and entering that productive mode.

Yes, it wasn't quite "dramatic" or "authoritative." But it was enough to get me going.

The alarm goes off, I get out of bed...a quick visit to the powder room, start the coffee and i am pretty much ready to start my day. I don't need a long transition.

It's been a long time since I last saw sunrise. I'm very slow, specially when I just woke and I'm about to prepare myself for work. Usually takes me an hour to convince myself that I need this job and because it brings home the bacon. My shift starts at 3am. I sleep around 9pm and wake up around 1am, and it's not just today

Nice photo. I'm often up around 3:30. I don't set and alarm. That's just when I'm up. "Sleeping in" happens on days like today, when I got up around 4:30. My favorite part of the day is day is early morning. I love watching the sunrise. It's when I'm most productive. Everything is quiet.

I try my best to readily rise from bed as soon as the alarm sound off. It takes over an hour to take a bath, dressup, and prepare to go to work. Such a slow poke in the morning.

Oh, once I get rolling, it takes me about 15 mins to be ready, including shower. But a toasty warm bed is a hard thing to leave on a Winter morning, even in California.
