Introductions - Where the writers at?

Hello, my name is Jasmine.
Feel free to call me Jaz. I'd like to take a little time to introduce myself - not that anyone cares. But if you're ever wandering around my blog and wonder how it came to be, well there will always be this post.
I came to this site for two main reasons. One, I wanted to start a blog (I tried tumblr, and was constantly distracted - didn't work out), and two, I wanted to see if I could make a little extra by doing it without having to go through the hassle of Google adshare, or whatever it is.
So what will I be blogging?
Well, as of right now, this is my prediction.
60% - Writing Tips, Advice, Opinions, Discussions & Recommendations.
20% - Life/Relationship/Health Discussions, Opinions & Advice.
10% - Fandom. Marvel, Steven Universe, Manga/Anime, etc.
10% - Prooooooobably going to be some sort of ranting. Js. And just random thoughts.
So there you have it. I'm eager to get started on my first blog post. As well as curious as to how many other writing blogger (and other listed) there are here, and what it is that's already been discussion, and to what extent. All in all, happy to be here, and looking forward to engaging.

Welcome to MyLot. I would have to say that what you do on here should be less like blogging and more like 'conversation' - at least, if you want to see some return from it. It's not that you can't treat it like a blog (where you post an article and hope that many will read it but don't expect or ask for much in the way of comments or interaction) but you will certainly get more out of MyLot if your topics are fairly short and to the point but aimed at getting people to respond and to engage in 'conversation'.
You may see an 'article' and a 'discussion' as very much the same thing and, to an extent, they are but articles are more like lectures whereas discussions are more like conversation, so need to be written from a slightly different perspective. I'm sure you'll see what I mean and it can be fun and a very good exercise to adjust one's writing style accordingly.
MyLot is all about having fun (the earnings are really just a bonus) and you'll find people here friendly and helpful, I think. Here's my page of all the essential information and links together with a quick guide to the main elements and some other stuff which you may find useful:
A quick user guide to MyLot with answers to some Frequently Asked Questions, a short history of MyLot and other notes Pages Useful Links Welcome to MyLot MyLot is a social site which rewards you for taking part in discussions. There are members from all ov

Thanks for the advice! I always like engaging my readers in whatever I'm discussing with follow up questions and things like that, so I think the trick for me will be keeping them short. But I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. :)

Hi! I am supposed to be a writer. I belong to a writing group and have written a couple of novels, I just can't seem to finish them because editing is a pain in the butt. Along the way I have lost motivation. I am trying to get myself back to it but my illness (fibromyalgia) gives me a lot of fatigue, and my writing group keeps me active as I manage the Facebook page, the Twitter page, sometimes the blog, and the group as a whole. I really want to get back to my novel because I have an idea for another one but won't start one until I finish the other or I will never get back to it.
Hope you enjoy your time here and I look forward to reading what you have to share.

Hi @patgalca I also have written a couple of novels and I'm just now getting he synopsis and query ready for each to start sending to an agent. I will go over my novels again now that I got a degree in Creative Writing, but I completely understand the lack of motivation, not due to an illness, but distractions in my life like a retired husband, a 13 y/o, and two beagle/border collies. What are your novels about or what is the genre? I hope you get motivated again soon.

@SometimesINovel I do have a self published short story and considering the changes I made due to errors, I can't imagine trying to edit a novel that is 60,000-79,000 words long. And, since I can't afford the over $1000.00 for an editor, I am stuck with trying to find an agent because I don't want to publish something on my own and find that I made some horrible mistakes, like I have read in other self-published books. One of which is a good friend of mine and when I have free time, I told her I would give her feedback to improve her novel so she can publish another edition.

Loss of motivation is such a hard thing for a writer. A well as writer's block, which I think might be even more frustrating. Being so excited to write and just unable to do anything about it once you're in front of the computer or have a notebook and pen. I have some tips on how to get past that (at least what's worked for me). I'm excited to share them with you, as well as the rest of the writers who may stumble upon it.
@Carmelanirel2
That's some exciting stuff. I was always super nervous whenever I tried to write a query letter. I decided to self publish for a few reasons, which I'll go over in one of my future posts. But I wish you all the best. Seriously! That's such an exciting time. Also, congrats on the degree! I went for Visual Arts, myself, but adored the creative writing courses. I alway met the most interesting people (some of which snuck their way into my books, haha). I'll probably continue taking them online throughout my life.

People will jump in and tell you that this is not a blogging, but a discussion site. Ipersonally do not see what the harm is in both, but it seems to upset people if you want to write an article so I don't do that here. I use blogger and there are still a few sites around. Blogspot is not taking new people, but I think Elite Writers still exists. Persona Paper no longer pays, but people are still posting there so it may live to blog another day. There is alsy mykites.
Of course, discussing blogging and writing is possible here. If you can put a question mark after it nobody can complain.

Actually I am currently removing stuff from several sites and then going to think again. Mostly I think I am going to stick with my own blogs and use here for company. I think your approach might work here as it will give rise to discussion and that is the key.

Thanks. I think my blogging methods are a little different than the average blogger, as I'll most likely always ask for my readers thoughts or opinions afterwards. It'll never be just a post. And thanks for such a big list of places! So many people here to be managing so many sites at once. I'm just trying to see if this works out for me!

Been here almost two months and enjoying it. I have been on online sites for five years but this site is different as it is more of conversations inviting responses to our discussion topics. I like to engage even in long responses when needed, but that do not pay by way of monetary returns; just the icing on the cake for me - siva

Nice. I write poetry here and there. What type do you write? Mine is kind of all over the place when I do ... I mostly write novels. :) And yeah I was just saying how I love how you can also make friends here instead of it just being post after post.

Oh cool! I had one published when I was in highschool, but haven't written much since then, haha. I have 10 books published right now though. Novels are my passion. My dream is to one day have a bookshelf full of my own books!
Also, I'm sure I'll be posting some advice on novel writing if you need any help, or you could ask any questions privately that come to mind. :)

I was curious with live-action-saphora-scene just how that came about? Big wow!
An accepted perception for myLot website is around interaction but really with informal guidelines it really is up to a persons imagination in how they wish to utilize the site. Best wishes for your enjoyment.

Thanks that was neat. @SometimesINovel Think its great to have a story reproduced in film and very inspiring for anyone wondering what writing can be.

Definitely! I'm still star struck every time I have the chance to talk to her about it. Right now, she wants to work on another live scene from the story, since this one just won an award.

Saw that, did you? When I was attending college, I met an indie director/actress in a video art class. We struck up a conversation about my writing at some point, she read my book, Saphora vol.1 Retention and wanted/wants to make it into a fulll length film. :) What you saw was a scene taken from the book, which will be entered in film festivals at a later date to gain sponsors.
And yes, it seems to have caused a lot of speaking up when I mentioned blogging. But my blog posts are always going to be interactive.
