Childhood Photo Challenge – Me Aged About 11

Photo of me – taken by my Father

The childhood photo challenge was set by @kevin1877uk Someone suggested I must have looked cute as a child but here is proof I looked positively Satanic, almost like Damien from the Omen Movies. This photo was taken circa.1973 at a Butlins holiday camp, either Pwellheli in Wales or Ayr in Scotland. We used both camps for family vacations over the years of my mid-childhood. Though on holiday I look positively miserable here, and I’m clutching a book. I’m also pressed into posh clothes and I still had hair then. Shriek. Arthur Chappell

It's good to see the face behind the beard, even if it is 40 years ago

There are a few more recent shots of me without the beard too

How our parents made us dress and style our hair was not our faults. I once sported a pixie hair style. My mother said it was all the rave. I prefered my hair to be long, and now wear it this way.

So you could have been a double for the actor who played Daimen in the movies. I am glad I don't have the equipment to make this particular picture available on line. It is a school picture taken in grade school. I was maybe ten and wearing a red and white poka dot dress. My bangs had been recently cut by my aunt. She couldn't get them straight so kept cutting. They ended up about an inch long. So embarrassing.

My Mum always used to trim my fringe the night before a school photo, so like you she would cut off just a little bit more to level it up ... and ended up with it way to short.

Just like @kevin1877uk 's photo of him in younger years , you have a hairdo like that of the Beatles . But why do you say that you look positively satanic in that picture ?

I love this challenge--I was unsure where to post mine, so I posted mine in response to Kevin's original post, but this is fun to look at everyone's pictures!

You are so funny, in thinking you looked devilish. We all looked different back then to state it mildly. I hated the way my mother kept my hair when I was too young to stop her. Most of us still look funny at our school graduations before college or university. Looks like you were being forced to do something you didn't particularly enjoy. Is that a church you are in?

no, no church - just my Mum insisting I looked smart and not scruffy all the time. I was beginning to feel too old for our traditional family holidays at that time - I began to find holiday camps boring

Looks like the photo is taken through a wire mesh fence, did they keep you caged in??

I didn't see the Omen movies so to me you just look a bit sad I guess - as though you'd rather be in less 'don't get dirty' clothes.
