This guy/gal has got into our home stealthily and has been building a nest. I just caught him/her in action today. Thankfully he/she just started the work and I quickly cleaned out the bits of rags and twine that she has put there. I don't want to be dealing with a whole bunch of baby squirrels running around my house. The mother can get a little violent and bite us if she perceives us as a threat to her babies. I don't understand why they don't build their nest on trees.. There are quite a few trees around here. Have you had any rodents inviting themselves to your home?

Is the squirrel actually inside your home or in the attic? They can do a lot of damage like chewing the wiring in your home. Can you call animal control to come and take care of it?

@simone10 It was in one of the top open shelves of my laundry room. I am not sure if they chew up wiring like mice do.. but I am aware that they can bite people.

@Marilynda1225 I am aware of them spreading diseases through bites. Maybe its time to get a mesh installed on the door opening to the roof top.

@sofssu yes, squirrels can do lots of damage. If you can't get rid of it yourself then animal control is what you need. Not only can they bite but they can also spread disease

Squirrels are cute, but they are as dangerous as mice. Keep them away!

@sofssu One small animal or bug and our lives change . I saw a single roach in my room and I bought yesterday two cans of spider and roach spray.

@marguicha They sure are cute as long as they are in their place. Yup, you are right; I need to get a mesh installed on the door leading to my terrace. That could be his entry point.

It looks like this creature is more of a pest than a cute little thing.

Squirrels can do lots of damage if they get in the house. Good thing you caught this rascal before he/she moved the whole family in

@sofssu I am always a bit worried that the skinks that live outside the house might get in one day if I leave the door open.

Rodents in my country are considered as enemies of the state we plant traps and get rid of them fast

@biikik We usually don't thin k of squirrels as pests.. since they live in the trees and don't usually trouble us.
@sofssu (23662)

@biikiki I do see a different adaption of these animals in different places. Yup, I agree I won't tolerate any critter that eats up my hard work.

@sofss Here the are not friendly since they destroy the maize planted in the shambas thats why they are not welcomed or torerated

We have field mouse coming in the basement but the cats are taking care of that along with the traps we have set out for them. I knew someone who was having computer problems and when she called and her ISP sent people out to see what the problem was they found squirrels were biting through the wires to her computer.

@Marcyaz I am really happy that I got rid of the nest now. I don't want these critters biting the wire and causing problems here. If I see that squirrel around I will call pest control or set traps for them.

We see a family of squirrels out in the tree in the back yard. We have named them Norman, Norma and li'l Norm. Do you have cats? Our three cats would never let them come in unless the cats themselves were bringing them to show us.

@celticeagle No cats here. Love the little Norman family. I wouldn't mind them on the trees for sure.

I suppose that they love the warmer temperature of the house, they are smart animals, but can be very messy.

@LadyDuck I guess so.. If they had built a nest some where in the pergola or balcony I would have let them be.. but not inside the house where they have a free run.

Yes we had some of those pesky creatures in our roof space. I had to trap them and release them miles away. They made such a noise scampering around up there.

When we bought our current home 14 years ago the house had been empty for over a year. We had squirrels living in the attic. They had chewed a hole in the roof. We repaired that and got traps and caught them all. Then more tried to chew in and we ended up putting sheet metal in the area they were trying to chew. Haven't had any since.

Perhaps your house is warmer than a tree, and you sure have more food in the kitchen than up the trees. You did right to remove the nest before you have her babies at home. You definitely do not buy a house for them.

@scheng1 You do have a point there... the nights are still cooler and yes we have a lot of seeds stored up for birds here. Maybe I need to keep them someplace else. Yeah, I definitely don't want them shifting in with me.

Sad that you got rid of their nest. That is what bothers me that we are forced to take such harsh measures. If they just build nurture and move away is fine. That has happened here and I have watched the whole process with such joy.

Yesterday I observed a pigeon hanging out on my kitchen cabinet. I was too worried I asked my made and she blocked the small window from where it was entering. I can't afford nest with babies and all mess in my kitchen.

@sgbrown I don't know which is more destructive.. mouse or squirrels? I have had mice dig up my plants in my roof top container garden. Oh yes I didn't want those babies in there.
