The wildlife had a field day yesterday at my house

Yesterday I was doing something at the sink and all of a sudden a herd of deer showed up in the back. I guess the word was out that the new bag of deer corn had been put out. There were 9 all together and it didn't take long before the corn was a memory. While they were roaming around about 30 doves headed for the bird feeder. They know they can't fit on the feeder but they also know my husband throws feed on the ground for them. Something scared them and in their place 4 male Cardinals and 2 females showed up. I love watching them and as they decided who could eat and when, it started snowing and it was a beautiful sight. The bright red birds against the white flakes. I knew I couldn't get decent photos of any of them since it was cloudy but I will see the beauty of all that wildlife in my mind forever. The photo is mine from a year ago and is of a set of twin bucks who were born the year we moved here. They still show up every day, sometimes with mom who was with them that day for their corn.

How lucky you are to have all that wildlife 'on your doorstep'.

The nearest thing to wildlife that appears in my garden would be hedgehogs, but even they are rarely seen.

@AbbyGreenhill I do not think so, it is a nocturnal creature with a body covered in spines.

Is that relative to the ground hog?

My husband saw a robin the other day. Way way to early for them to show up. Maybe they know something I don't

I love it when the deer come to visit our place. We had 9 deer come through the other day. Hubby also has a deer feeder in the back yard for them. I know what you mean, the cardinals are so pretty against the white snow!

I cannot imagine what it would be like to look out the window and see a herd of deer. The best I can see is a hummingbird and occasional dove.

We've had deer in the yard at different homes over the last 10 years, so we have seen our share of them. The hummers will be back in early April.

Our back yard is near a wooded area. Sometimes we see deer, rabbits, foxes, woodchucks, and occasionally a bear. I would rather not see a bear though.

That photo was also a snowing day. They look much nicer in summer with their brown fur.

The doves know that they cannot fit on the feeder, but they try every day. I also put seeds on the ground for them. I like to watch the birds coming to my feeders.

I've just reread a book called The Song of the Cardinal by Gene Stratton Porter. They are beautifully bright birds.

What a touching tale. You guys are lovely people for feeding the birds and other wildlife. The twin bucks and their mom have formed a sense of belonging to your place.

Normally the bucks leave the area where they were born at about a year old...these two are sticking around for some reason.

We used to drive to the eastern edge of town at dusk and see the deer. They come down from the foothills for the hay that people put out for them. This same area is where a lot of eagles come to nest too. It's a great area.
