Fishing For A Snack. A Reflection Photo

Canada
February 12, 2016 6:31am CST
The Egret was standing so still I almost missed him. There were others watching this Egret looking for lunch.. We were all holding our breath, being so quiet and not moving, hoping we would see the Egret be successful. The Egret was moving slowly. Each step was planned and his eye was on the prize. Easy movements by this stalking giant put tiny ripples in the reflection on the water. I took this photo with my iPad just seconds before he moved quickly and with grace, he caught the fish. And he and his pray were gone, flying with big wings to dine in privacy. Big birds are so graceful to watch. And we who watched gave him a hand in appreciation of his entertainment Thanks to @JudyEv for starting the reflection challenge.

What a gorgeous shot. I love the big birds too. I see lots of Great Blue Herons, we have egret as well just doesn't seem to be as many as there are Herons.

We have them both in the boonies. They nest high in the trees in a swamp near where my daughter lives.

@PainsOnSlate I have seen egrets nesting on documentaries but would love to see a tree full of them in nature. How cool.

I am fascinated by the same thing and will often take 20 pictures to capture the success

I do that too. When using my IPad when I get home I just put my I Pad next to my Mac and open the photos, they transfer them selves to the Mac, then I delete all but the best on mt iPad. Takes too much space on my iPad...

What a wonderful photo, I quickly saw him, but I love these birds. I'm all challenged out for a while now, so I'm not planning on putting anything up for this, and I don't know if I even have any good shots that would qualify for such a discussion. But you did well.

I just have my iPad with me so didn't know if there was a reflection shot on it. Was happy to find this one from last year. My PC at home has hundreds...

It was serendipity and I was there with my iPad. It was fun . I took several because the iPad doesn't make any noise...

The Egret certainly has a focused look on its face. He's on a mission for sure. A beautifully captured reflection.

Too bad you did not capture the moment when it caught its dinner. I bet the poor fish is the only one that does not appreciate his "entertainment".

That's a stunning photo Marilyn - the reflection of the palm trees is wonderful. if you hadn't said I would have thought it was a heron.

They are in the same family. Some call them white herons but here they are Egrets, our herons are blue/gray... I love the tropical look too, so different from Canada.

I enjoy watching the hawks watching ground squirrels at work. Sometimes I get to see them go for it. A couple of times, I've seen them carry off their prey, still peeping their alarm calls. Cool picture, by the way!

Thanks, I thought it was interesting. I looked out the front window of my house and saw a huge hawk sitting in a Maple Tree over my car in the driveway, it was eating something and since we have a billion squirrels I was hoping that was what he was eating. He was a bloody mess while eating. The next day when I drove to the YMCA I noticed my car was a bloody mess too.
