Sprucing Up Old Furniture

If you have some nice pieces of wood furniture with a few dings and small scratches on them, there are easy ways to correct these problems.
I worked on my furniture today to correct some problems that happened during a move and it turned out pretty well. Here's what I did--
Guardsman makes touch-up pens for wood furniture. They come in a set of three. First I started with the lightest shade, dotted a little on the scratch and wiped with a clean soft cloth in the direction of the grain. If that was not dark enough, I went to the next darker shade. Now my wood furniture looks good again.
You could also use a tan or a brown Sharpie if you have that. I also have tried brown shoe polish and that works too. You just have to be careful and be sure to wipe off any excess.
Do you have any tips for freshening up old furniture?

My father spilled tea on a nice table, leaving a white mark that did not want to disappear. I was told to take a piece of walnut meat and rub it over the spot. I had nothing to lose. It worked beautifully.

@Morleyhunt No kidding. I have a cloudy ring on a table. I wonder if it would work on that. I'll try it.

@Dalane I didn't really believe it would work. This morning I purchased some walnut halves at the grocery store to try it. I was ready to write a commercial after I was successful.
