Do you wait for inspiration to hit before you write?

A lot of times I don't write because I don't feel inspired. I know I should just write anyway. Do you write when you don't feel the muse?

I've always viewed just writing for the sake of it as a good way out of writer's block. Most of it isn't of sufficient quality for public consumption but it does tend to help me out of a creative dry patch.

@Mike197602 When I'm not feeling it most of the stuff I write is just stored away and browsed every now and again to see if it sparks any ideas. I don't inflict it on anyone!!!

Funny you should mention that, I have so many travel articles I need to write and I am just not in the mood.

@BelleStarr I have this insane desire to tell you just to 'get going' on those travel articles but I will try not to. Try writing about your favorite place and it might jump start you on getting the articles done.

I am a bit stuck on my travel ones at the moment. I think it's knowing how hard it's going to be picking out photos for the next slideshow.

Maybe taking a trip would put you in the mood to write?

Often I just start writing and the words come...although sometimes even that doesn't work!

Kathy, I know that feeling well. It is especially bad when you have a writing assignment and can't even write a coherent sentence, let alone entertain a good idea.

I am just an opinionated chatterbox, I have an endless source of topics to write about, if only I had time. And of course I feel as if I ought to read other people's posts too and not just spend all my myLot time writing about what's on my mind!

I also have endless topics but can't think of them or just don't feel like writing about them some days. Yes, it is good to read other's posts also. I have written about all sorts of things for money. It is a good incentive to write when you don't feel like it.

Write every day whether I feel like it or not. If I waited for inspiration, I might finish Candy Crush.

@msiduri I can think of a lot of other excuses, also. I wrote an article about it once. What if the hill in back of our house is a volcano? It will erupt someday and spew lava all over the front room. Got to climb it and see if it is getting hotter. I just heard a rumble. No time to write.

Fish World was my guilt trip. There was always another tank to decorate. I think we make excuses.

I write very few discussions compared to many people. I write one when I feel like it but also I make sure if I do write one that I've got at least a couple of hours free to be here as I personally like the instant back and forth. Some people do things differently and there's no right or wrong but I do like getting back to people fast and often it makes for a better discussion in my opinion.

I always try to stick around for a few hours after I post a discussion. I was mostly referring to writing stories and articles, but this qualifies as writing also. There is no right or wrong like you said. I am just interested in how people do things.

@akalinus Yes,I did go a little off your original question didn't I I'm quite into the "technicalities" of the site and what makes a good discussion etc. Going back to your original point...I don't always write stuff when I get an idea. I used to write down my ideas for when I'm in the mood to write a discussion but I don't do that anymore. Sometimes I find I get inspiration from what I read here and think of a new angle to come at a certain topic but don't write a discussion as I think it may be seen as copying or taking another persons idea. I never write stuff just for the sake of it as I personally feel people can see you're doing that.

@Mike197602 I try to remember to write down ideas. I keep thinking I will remember them, but I don't. It is so frustrating, especially when it is a good idea and I just lost it.

For the most part, I don't like to post unless I have been inspired to write about something. I don't want to write just for the sake of writing. My goal is to always post at least once a day, but if the inspiration isn't there I will often skip a day of writing. If I find I go several days without inspiration, I may post something quick and simple just to stay engaged with everyone. Often, just the back and forth commenting will often trigger things to write about, or will at least stimulate a little inspiration in me.

I always seem to have a variety of topics to write about luckily. If I don't I start scrolling through photos.
