My Bank at Persona Paper

With impending closure of Persona Paper, I've already written off the princely sum of $1.99 I have in my bank. I can walk away from that without too much anxiety. Persona Paper no longer displays ads and people's banks are no longer accumulate the "coins" which correspond to dollar amounts. Fewer and fewer people are posting. Some, like me, stick their noses in to comments and exchange news and greetings with friends. So why is my bank now displaying $1.59? I'm not worried too much about it. I can write off $1.59 as easily as the $1.99 I've already written off. I'm just confused. There's been no notice from the admins.

I check in PP once a day to stay on top of any news. Have you deleted any articles? If you did, that deducts from your coin and earnings total. I made that mistake. I have $11.88 in hopes of possible payment so halted any more deleting.

@msiduri Yes when I left a there a year ago I deleted any articles I wanted to use elsewhere and my bank plummeted. It is always sad when a site closes. But we are a friendly bunch here.

Ah, I deleted one. Forty cents? Mystery solved. Thanks.

@BelleStarr Yes, I'm starting to feel more at home here. I'm glad I found this place.

If you have removed any of your articles, the coins it earned go with it. I managed to dock myself 20 coins that way, just for removing one article.

@AliCanary Well, there's hardly a penalty. You confirmed John. There.

John Roberts filled me in. One article was worth 40¢. OUCH. Well, won't do that again. But I guess it's all academic since I don't expect to to see the $1.59 that's left anyway.

@msiduri - I am notorious for not reading the prior comments before making one myself, LOL

there is no point in posting any more on there - I am slowly removing my wanted articles from there for future usage

I can understand that. I've stopped posting, but I comment on other people's post, just to chat.

@msiduri Yes they are and I really enjoyed being on the site but it just took too long to earn anything.

Thanks. The site is closing. They've given us quite a bit of notice. The owners are decent sorts.

@simone10 It did. When I gave up the idea of earning anything, I began to enjoy interacting with people, though.

I've never been active in any way on PP. From a few years experience on writing sites I've seen that when things start to look fishy it's time to leave. You're on a good site now so maybe put all your efforts in here?

I guess because so many sites have crashed and burned, I don't put all my eggs in one basket. Besides, different sites have different flavors.

@msiduri that isn't a bad idea but sometimes if you're on more than one site you sort of dilute yourself. Mylot has been around for a long time now and I know for a fact that the admins/owners are looking to make this site bigger and better.

I am so sorry! I have an account there but have not posted there in a long while--it was very slow and the attitude of the administration bothered me--hope it all works out well for you--it is hard to let the money go!

Well, at this point, there $1.59 at stack for me. I can let that go with too much gut-wrenching. . I'll have to re-read the TOU, but my understanding is that if the site goes away, the posts are the authors' property simply because they won't be on the net anywhere and won't be monetized (they aren't now, but I won't copy them b/c they won't be unique to a new site).

@msiduri It is always sad to see the demise of a site. You make friends there and are never sure if they'll transfer to wherever you decide to go.

The site was small but friendly and never paid much. Those of us who stayed there accepted that. The owners were quite up front about everything but had gotten hard to reach recently. It was obvious what was in the wind. They're closing the site. There may or may not be a final payout.

I've got you beat on Persona Paper - I'm leaving about $4 on the table. It is interesting to see how many people still post there. I think we all wish its end could be different.

I agree with you about the end. But I don't think the owners have any choice. The last time I looked—a couple days ago—maybe half a dozen people were still posting there. It's not harder to walk away from $4 than from $1.59, I imagine.

I felt really angry at PP shutting down, and I had a mere pittance after a year and it was truly disappointing. Like you, I'm trying to take it as a learning experience and walk away.

I think the owners really didn't have a choice. And though they have been uncommunicative for some months (never a good sign), they did give us a heads-up when they the end became inevitable. I'll miss it, I admit. The place I still haven't gotten over is Epinions! But time to forge a new home here, I think.

@msiduri So true about Epinions! I'm not mad at anyone at PP, it's the situation that infuriates me.
