Recently I went to a school board meeting for fight for keeping cursive writing in the school system for elementary kids. Honestly, I thought I would never find myself being faced with something so petty but so beneficial for my child. The debate by teachers were, there would be no reason in the next 5 years for children to have to ever need to sign their name on any documents, that it would all be digital and electronic. Needless to say, with only a couple dozen parents there to debate why we needed it in the school still, we lost the vote and it will no longer be taught by teachers. Do you think children should be taught to sign their names in cursive?

I know. It makes me feel so old when I am trying to tell my 13yr old that we didn't have tablets like she has, or even computers in our class room. Even trying to explain to her the amount of time her dad and I spend signing our mortgage loan papers that were in a 2 inch stack. Those days are obsolete, and it was just 8 years ago.

@thash1979 It also makes you wonder when they stop teaching cursive, how long it will be before they stop teaching kids to even print?

My son never learned but he's developed his own type of cursive as he has to sign order forms at his job.

My autistic daughter has dysgraphia (difficulty writing) so when she wasn't taught I thought nothing of it. It was until I realized my son did not learn either that I knew none of the kids were learning it.

I haven't heard of this happening in Australian schools but it easily could be. I must ask some of the parents around the place.
