Yesterday was Friday and I got paid for my week of babysitting. I made $104 which isn't bad at all but that mean I could only put a $1 into our lock box for our savings. I was hoping to do more this week but just couldn't since that was the lowest bill I got. yes I got paid in Cash and used the money for food for the week. My husband got paid a few days early which was nice and we are also getting our Tax money this week which will awesome. I should be happy that at least I was able to put something into the box this week. Do you physically put money aside for savings. It's a new method for us so we don't spend money.

We have a savings that we put into every month or so and then he has his 401 K for our retirement, a coin jar that we put change into to save up over time, and then we have a savings where my hubby puts $10 a week out of his check. It's mostly emergency money and college money for when my son gets older. Just trying to be prepared and thinking ahead. It's a bit of a sacrifice for us since that means we don't travel much, but that's OK because our son is still really little and wouldn't get much out of the vacations anyway. We will try ton splurge a bit once he gets a little older.

We don't travel much at all besides once a year during the summer at least for right now. We started with very little money so we haven't had any savings at all since we have been married. But we are now able to out a little aside every week like a dollar or more. Got to start some where when you can.

@DanieGirl80587 I'm not sure how much I'm going to put a side today since I haven't gotten paid. I normally get paid at drop off but we started a new drop off time so I guess I'll get paid at pick up.

If I keep cash for even a day lol You can be sure it would be half way gone in mundane things... So, I get it to put it in bank. But now we have our pays deposited directly in the banks...

My husband has direct depot when he gets paid. I always get paid in a check or cash. I prefer getting paid in cash since then I can put away money easier with out having to transfer the money around. That and we use the cash first before the card makes you think about what your spending it all on,

@ShyBear88 That is good too... We take out estimated cash according to what is our monthly expenditure from the bank. Rarely if ever we need to go back to take out more cash. But it does happens in case of emergency and such...

Look t it this way, even if you only save a couple dollars a day, it all adds up. People don't see the big picture like saving a dollar a day means 365 dollars at the end of the year

@freak369 We once had a couple have a meal in our restaurant which they paid for in 20pence pieces! They said that they never felt any poorer, but it added up !

I try to save when I can.I try to keep some change on hand. That means not in a bank. Sometimes we're in positions to save a little but there will be a time when we're able to save more.

You are correct. I only put a dollar away last week. Which is better then nothing. Yes we use to not be able to put away anything for savings and I some times get paid in cash so them we have cash and change on hand. When my husband leaves the change out I out it in our snowman and some times the kids get a penny or two for their little banks for their room. Their piggies get hungry.

@Teep11 This is very true, I had savings for the first time in my life when I took a second part time job 15 years ago. I was only there for 3 years as the school system changed but it gave me a nest egg that I have still and have dipped into once or twice

No I don't physically put away anything for savings. All my money is tied up and a little of my savings I use to live on as I don't have a job. I'm from the UK but $104 for a whole week isn't good but maybe you don't do long hours?

I'm a mom of three kids and I babysit two others that are siblings I get paid $8/hr and paid every week at the end of the week. Most of my job is 24/7 people it deals with my own children which I don't get paid for in money. My husband works 8 hours a day and get's paid every twos. So my little bit of money I make every week which can be close to $200 depending on what time the kids are picked up, I'm not sick, one of the kids isn't sick, a holiday, or something that isn't bad in my book that is good, a lot people then most people make. I also don't get taxed for it. So don't insult the money I've worked hard for while 5 kids are in my care. This family I've spend 2 years work for can not afford to pay me more then that. I'm also already picking up more hours which is breaking the mothers heart since she doesn't get to spend any time with her 2 year old because he is with me.

I put all my small change into a big teddy bear jar so basically quarters or less. Part of it will be for my daughter's saving account the other part I'm putting to go away this summer. I've started paying with cash only in order to collect more.

@Auntylou that's awesome. IN the last few weeks I've saved $41 but we just put away $500. We made a plan take the money to the bank once another that gives us about a $100 a month going into the bank for savings at the bank we don't go to ans the rest in the two banks near us.

That is a good start. If you use cash to buy things, you will get small change. You can save the small changes into the box too. After a few months, you will find that the box is filled to the brim with shiny coins.

We put the change in a snow man and then bring it to the bank when it fills up. The lock box is for the cash so we can bring it to a different bank. We give a lot of our coins to our kids because they like money to fill there little piggy banks. They get hungry.

@cherriefic yes every little dime you put in will grow over time if you let sit. We just put in $500 away with our tax retuned that came in this morning. That should help and just leave it sit and add to once we get about $100 or so in the lock box. I might be adding another family to my babysitting at home and that will add another $200 a week for me. I'm supper excited to know we have a savings with money in it where it'll stay till we really need it. Tomorrow is payday for me as well.

@ShyBear88 I agree. There's no such thing as small savings. As long as you can save up, it will grow in the future anyway.

Yes we put some on gift cards save it in a coin jar of your choice. When it gets full or reaches a certain amount we cash it into a coin-star then we take the cash and put it on gift card.

Some weeks I get paid in cash and other weeks I do not. It just depends. My husband just took our return today from our taxes and put $500 away into one of our accounts we can't get into at a bank that is about 30 minutes from our house.

@Auntylou yes because then there is less temptation to want to use it. This week I put a $20 aside since I got paid more for the extra hours of babysitting I have and will be doing.

Physically putting aside money is an age old tradition in India. My granny used to put away money in one of the spice boxes in the kitchen. 'Hundi' is a small box that is always kept in the prayer room so that the children in the family can use it for saving money.

We don't really carry around cash here in the US so I haven't carried around cash since I was in high school. But I some times get paid in cash which is fine with me. I out a little bit of it away and put the rest in the bank.

@Auntylou that's why when I get paid in cash I keep,it so when we go out to the store and I put some in the lock box. Or put it in the bank if I have to to keep it positive.

We do physically put money aside for savings, but they usually go to the bank within a week. I feel that it's great to have something tangible to keep track of - it's motivating! I went so far as to keep an excel spreadsheet of our savings.

Right now till Friday I have that $1 sitting in our house. We are taking part of our tax money to another bank that we don't have card to it and it takes like 30 minutes to get there so we don't want to go out there unless we really need the money for something. I'm hoping to put all of the money I make online into the bank as well.

@ShyBear88 You are doing great on saving up physically. We tend to easily spend away what we can't see. Your lock box system works great since your bank is rather far away.

@Ladypeace We put a little in the lock box and put the rest either in the bank near us to buy things for the need like diaper, food, pay bills. When we can put the money a side like i try to weekly when I get paid it helps. I figure i can take up to $20 a week that I make and put it side. Money will still be tight like normal but it won't be so tight it's going to bust us.
