What Does It Mean?

This morning I was taking my dogs out like I usually do every morning. All of a sudden I heard this horrendous noise. I didn't know what it was and it was a little scary. It seemed like out of nowhere, a huge flock of birds flew over and into the trees in the woods behind us. There had to be at least a thousand of them and they were just chattering away.
I couldn't tell what kind of birds they were because they were up so high in the sky. I can't help but wonder if these are the birds that go south for the winter. If so and they have come back, maybe that means spring is just around the corner. One can only hope...

It usually happens in the spring and they appear to be starlings. They travel in huge numbers. It would be nice if spring is right around the corner.

@PainsOnSlate That's not my picture but from Pixabay so I'm not sure what kind of birds they are.

@simone10 when I looked up close, your birds have longer wings than starlings. Maybe gulls? Are you near water? That's a lot of big birds.

It is probably the birds getting ready for spring.

They seem to be migrating in a flock. Birds do so to appear stronger to deter possible predators and to take advantage of aerodynamics.

That would scare me too. No birds here though as we just had a snow storm so no signs of them.

@simone10 We were woken one night by a huge noise followed by the place being lit up by a big light. That was scary too. I thought it was a UFO but it was a big rescue helicopter looking for a place to land. There had been a bad motor accident on the highway not far from our place.

It does make me wonder. Maybe spring is coming. I sure hope so. We are getting snow right now. I can't wait until winter is over.

Did you feel like Tippi Hendren from The Birds? I do like to see them in big flocks in the sky but I don't usually hear them.

@Jeanniemaries I am hoping so. We are having temps in the 60's the rest of this week and I am hoping it stays that way.

@simone10 I think it does mean spring is on the way! They move up and down the country according to the weather.

Occasionally I'll see hundreds of birds like that and wonder what makes them take flight.
