I just wrote a post on volunteering. I used to volunteer in a hospital when I was a kid. Today, I am a class mom at my son's school and help with different projects. Its a fun thing to do!

It must be fun (and a bit frustrating sometimes!!) to work with kids, what grade(s) are you volunteering in? Thanks for your reply :).

I've done a range of volunteer assignments, including a couple of hospitals. I occasionally volunteer for a food-rescue group and for a group that supports my town's library. I enjoy volunteering; it just feels good, and it helps me meet people, gain experience that may help me in a job, and possibly meet people who can help me in my career. Mainly I just enjoy the experience in itself.

I might be a little paranoid to work in a hospital... I try to avoid placing myself in situations which escalate the chance i could catch something, but that's really great you could be there for people that way. It does feel good to volunteer. I had my first volunteer job when I was 16, that was in a hospital for terminally ill patients in Winston-Salem, NC, called HSA (Human Service Alliance). Best of luck to you :).

I volunteered at my public library. I shelved books and put them in order. And, after I had volunteered for a few months, I was offered a paying job there, which I had for six years.

That's really great to hear :). Recently my boss, who's a paid employee there, has moved me into an office, and i'm helping with their redesign of the web site, which isn't modern right now (www.ralphthornton.org). I did the volunteer application form there on wednesday, which they really love (it sends application to their email, but i'm explaining how to use a database and stuff so i'll be modifying it in the future again. They are also teaching me all the internal stuff about their network, etc., so i think they might be planning to hire me eventually too, as there has been some talk about related things. Anyway, thanks for your reply, best of luck in all your future endeavors :).

I help people use computers at this place Ralph Thornton Centre in Toronto twice a week. mostly it's just how to use email, or make a resume, but sometimes it's more complicated. i don't mind volunteering - get to meet people, get free coffee, sometimes free meals, and experience for my own resume of course..

I do, constantly. I am on the board of an animal rescue organization, so I wind up donating a lot of my time there, but I also help out at my church and in my neighborhood where needed.

that's sweet you are helping out the rights of animals, it really makes me sad to hear stories on the news of cruelty. sometimes i wish the person could experience what they did to one of those animals for themself - i don't think they'd do it again.
