Does Size Matter?

Stop right there! We all know the answer to that question! But when it comes to choosing diamonds for an engagement ring, size is not the thing that matters.
Our younger son spent the last three weeks familiarizing himself about the 4 Cs regarding diamonds: cut, clarity, carats, and color. Why? Because he is planning to get engaged!!!!!!
He finally chose a diamond. His jeweler must be relieved after all the stones he had to show and all the visits my son made to him. He is now making by hand the perfect setting my son wants.
We are over the moon for him!

@DianneN But if it's too big people are nosy and might ask difficult questions. Like 'what do you do with it when you are working/sleeping/washing-up or whatever

@mysdianait I never had that problem. We upgraded my original ring for an anniversary gift 10 years ago. My husband wants me to wear it all the time, except traveling to certain countries. It's insured. If someone wants to steal it, they can have it. Lol!

I worked for a jeweler at the time of my first engagement and since the owner sold him the ring I know it's a perfect stone. So is the one my current husband gave me. I don't wear y diamonds they are in the safe.

@AbbyGreenhill I wear two sets of studs in my ears, but no one ever sees them, unless I am facing a strong wind! Lol!

Well with that decision behind him, I'm sure that the rest will be somewhat easier, or more natural. Do you know when he's planning on asking her or how? I think its so sweet and exciting. We are still waiting for word from our son on his plans, we do not know how far along in the "process" he is.

@DianneN Wonderful! No, he's doing this solo, he spoke to Dad about it before the holidays, and now we just keep wondering when. But its still exciting, we'll get the details as soon as they are ready to share them. I'm glad that he's doing this on his own for the most part.

@Juliaacv We are extremely close with our younger son, with him being our baby and living 25 minutes away. Knowing that his dad has expertise on diamonds after seeing many of mine, our son wanted to be sure he was getting what he paid for. He also discussed the diamond buying process with his brother, who bought a flawless diamond for my dil. The final decision was his, as will be his own proposal.

He is hoping to propose as soon as the ring is set. They are making the band for him which can take up to 3 weeks. He wants it in 9 days. He will keep the proposal low key, unlike his brother. His was over the top! Does your son keep you in the loop? I hope it is soon.

We only bought wedding bands . Our engagement was for only five months and I thought it would be wasted money.

Diamonds are never wasted money. My older son said the ring he bought for his engagement appreciated by 10 thousand since he bought it. Mine has, too, by much more. We are all getting them reappraised for the insurance companies. Perhaps you will get one for a big anniversary gift.

I am glad he has been able to find the diamond he wanted. I am sure you are very happy about his coming engagement.
I did not have a large diamond, I told my fiance that I did not want a big one, and was very happy with the one he chose.
