Have you ever seen a volcano?

Smoke and Fire from Volcano - This is at the mouth of a volcano near Masaya, Nicaragua.

Would you want to hike right up to the mouth of the volcano and look in for yourself? There are gases around the volcano so I think a gas mask would be good, especially if you have asthma.

No, I’ve never seen a volcano. I never thought of going to visit one, but if I got an opportunity and was assured that it would be relatively safe I probably would go to the rim and take a look in. I like to do exciting things like that. How many people can say they’ve looked into the mouth of a volcano?

My husband's nephew is a tour guide and he takes people to see the volcanos up close. I got the photos from him. I have asthma and can't get very close. People really seem to enjoy taking a close look.

Fortunately there are no volcanoes in the United Kingdom, and I have never visited one while travelling. A volcano is a fascinating example of nature, but after seeing various examples on television and being aware of the poisonous environment and unstable surrounding surface I would not really wish to visit one.

Yes, I understand completely. The gases near the openning of the volcano are something I don't want to be breathing.

There are lots of volcanos here in Nicaragua where I live. Some of them have smoke coming from them and at the moment I think they are all dormant. Scientists monitor them closely so they know when they are getting more active.

I have actually had the opportunity to hike up to the mouth of a volcano in Grants, New Mexico. I took a cross country trip and stopped at wonderful sites along the way. I saw this sign that said stop here and climb a volcano, so I did! It was awesome, it was a one mile hike up a trail and it led you to the edge of the mouth of the volcano, now of course the volcano is not active, but it was still awesome. I even have a t-shirt that says I climbed a volcano, Bandera volcano and ice caves. The ice cave was wonderful too because you are VERY hot when you descend, since I did this in the summer so the ice cave was very cool and refreshing. You should do this if you ever go near Grants, New Mexico.

mayon volcano - mayon volcano
yes, i have seen a volcano, there's alot of volcano in our country, but i think it is scary to go up to the mouth of volcano. One of the will known volcano in our country is the "Mayon Volcano"Mayon Volcano is an active volcano in the Philippines on the island of Luzon, in the province of Albay in the Bicol Region. Its almost perfectly-shaped cone is considered by some to be the Philippine equivalent of Mount Fuji in Japan. 15 kilometres to the southeast of the volcano is Legazpi City. Mayon is classified by volcanologists as a stratovolcano (composite volcano). Its symmetric cone was formed through alternate pyroclastic and lava flows. Mayon is the most active volcano in the country, having erupted over 50 times in the past 400 years. It is located between the Eurasian and the Philippine Plate, at a convergent plate boundary: where a continental plate meets an oceanic plate, the lighter continental plate overrides the oceanic plate, forcing it down; magma is formed where the rock melts.
