Exploring Medium as a Blog Promotion Site

I had heard from a friend that the site medium.com is a good place to promote one's writing on other sites. I'm not sure what I was expecting to find, but not that I already had an account on a site I'd only heard about a few weeks ago. It seems I'd seen a post on Facebook or link from Twitter and commented on that post. That somehow made an account for me and is listed as a post on my profile. Every comment on Medium becomes a post which you can later edit or expand into a longer post. I completed my profile. My name there is my real one, Barbara Radisavljevic, and my handle is the usual @barbsbooks. Then I posted two pieces I used to have on Bubblews, linked from them to other places I where I have writing, and tweeted one of them out. I also explored what some others who might have common interests have written by using the excellent search. I followed a few people who wrote those articles and some of them were a lot of fun to read and easy to comment on. Now I'm waiting to see if anyone follows back. It was a stupid time to start something new, since I'm working on taxes and behind on chores. The site looks like a lot of fun for those interested in social blogging and don't care about earning anything. It's good for backlinking. You do want to put your best foot forward and post what will be interesting for someone who doesn't know you to read. I'm working on posting to a number of different keywords there so that I can be found by those who have similar interests. If you decide to check it out, please look me up. I could use a friend or two there. I can be found by my name or the keywords "picnic" or "roadtrip"

Hi nice lady! Going through a list of names found at the myLot Refugees Facebook Group, following the users, visiting their discussions and leaving comments. Your name is on the list. So it's your turn! My Medium experience has been a productive one. Had not thought of it as a place to promote my blog. But that is certainly doable. I have used it as a place to “import” or republish some of my articles that took on a serious tone (addressing illegal immigration in the US (HUBPages), bible topics like balsam for priests and kings (PersonaPaper), etc.). Since medium allows you to import your stories, might as well say what I have to say to another audience that might actually read it. Can't hurt. To my surprise one of my imported blog posts (from a blog that had been deleted) was actually picked up by another Medium member that promotes improving education and published again by them for viewing by their followers. I was surprised! Didn't know they did that! Sweet! Anyway … if you have a serious or sober topic to discuss and have written an article about it, Medium is a great site to present your thoughts, opinions, perspectives, expertise, etc. With respect to income potential? Medium is a respected site and publishing there can enhance your online reputation and give you more Internet exposure which could leade or redirect readers to your income-earning websites and blogs. Can't hurt. Could be worth some money!

I enjoy the site when I have time to be there. I don't think I've found you yet. What name do you use?

Maybe... I'd check it out, although I probably wouldn't do too much there at this time either. Just got my taxes done, finally, but it's getting time to get busy cleaning windows for the summer, or until December of this year, and that will llimit my time even more. I should get back to hubpages and put my tutorials there that I wrote first on bubblews. I get a little stipend from them periodically and I know I'd get more if I wrote more than nine articles.

Don't count on much income from HubPages. You will probably earn more here. I have 39 featured hubs on my SQuidoo transfer account and I earned .77 from them so far this month. Ihave 45 featured hubs left on my original account and they have earned $4.71 so far this month. EAch account pays separately, and I'll probably never reach $50 on the transfer account. I used to make $50 every two months with just my original account. Now I'm lucky if I get paid once a year.

@MarshaMusselman They are moving one of mine over into a niche, too. I'll have to see if there's a difference. I don't much care what they do at this point. I'm leaving hubs that get views there and I'm trying to find time to revise and move the ones that don't.

@bagarad Have you heard that they're developing niche sites now and moving over hubs they've found for certain ones? They picked on of mine that has been doing a lot better than I realized. It's had over 18,000 views since I wrote it. Granted, I only make about fifty dollars every few years or so, but I've been thinking about putting some of my tutorials over there to see if I do better with them too. They did well on bubblews from outside views. The rest of my hubs only have at most 300 or so views. But I figure that's still pretty good considering I'm barely if ever there. It's too bad they don't put your two accounts together. I don't know why they'd do it that way. With the new niche sites they're hoping to break away from the need for panda, I think it was more or less. Maybe as they develop more niche sites things will change overall for hubpages and our payments.

@bagarad That's all good then isn't it? I didn't join Persona Paper but everyone says it was a friendly site.

I'm wondering if you've had more time there and what your thoughts are? I did a little looking around and found interesting articles and spent more time reading there than I intended to! LOL. The site has a great Alexa score and over a million daily visitors so looks much better than a lot of the monetized sites as well.

I haven't had much time to go there since joining Flip-it (doesn't pay, it's more like Pinterest) and working on my blog challenge posts. I do enjoy it when I have time, but writing that pays comes first for me right now. Did you join? If so, I hope you'll connect so I can follow you there. There are excellent professional writers posting there. I'm not one of them. So far I've only import posts from closing sites.

@bagarad I haven't joined yet. Not sure if I can take on any more social media right now. But it is definitely one I will consider when I have a little more time and of course I'll look you up if I do join! :)

It doesn't pay, but it encourages discussion of ideas.
