Live and Don't Learn

Instruments of pain.

Yesterday was a sloppy day outside so I put on this old uncomfortable pair of shoes. I wasn't going to be walking much just from the car into each errand and into two gas stations for mystery shops. So I didn't think it would matter that the shoes were not comfortable. I did walk from errand to errand as much as possible; but probably walked less than a kilometre in total. That was enough to come home with aching legs, back and knees. I bought these shoes because they seemed comfortable in the store and can stay in my school bag in case I forget to bring shoes. I soon learned I cannot get through a day of work wearing them but didn't get rid of them. Last summer I tried using them for gardening shoes and that was not a good idea. They are useless and yet they are still not in the garbage! Maybe they will be my cycling shoes. Am I the only one who hates to throw things out?

If something doesn't 'fit' size wise or any other way - it goes bye bye

@paigea We have a local thrift shop (church related one) and I donate there.

@AbbyGreenhill The thrift shop would garbage these. We do have convenient thrift shops to donate to.

Wise words. I find it easier to get rid of things good enough to donate than to pitch them in the garbage.

Wow I really like those shoes! But no good if they are not comfortable for you my friend. Too bad they are not. Yes I do hate throwing things out as it is a waste, but sometimes no one wants them lolz

They seemed comfy like slippers when I bought them! But they make my feet lean over and I walk on the side of my feet when I am wearing them?

I hate buying shoes that seem comfortable at the store -then when I get uses out of the shoes and they hurt! I typically just resale then back on an app I sell my clothes ( new or pre-owned).

@marlina Sometimes I break even, sometimes I don't - but it's better than having the shoes sit at home and won't be worn.

I, too, will hang on to a pair of shoes long past the point where they are of any use. I don't know why that is.

@paigea By the time I am ready to retire a pair of shoes, the thrift shops wouldn't want them.

@DWDavis same here. But I should have figured these out immediately and donated them. Maybe they would have worked for someone elses feet.

That makes me feel better. My husband would throw them right out if I complained. At least he got rid of a new pair of his that were uncomfortable when they were new so they could go to the thrift shop. Mine are too shabby for that

No, I am also guilty not to throw things that I do not use. I have too many pairs of shoes, I should donate those who are almost new and that I never use.

@paigea I have a couple of pairs that need the garbage, I use them in the garden, but I am going to recycle something different.

@MALUSE Yes, I know that I have to give away and throw many things and then I have to try to convince my husband to do the same.

This discussion has convinced me I should donate another pair of shoes I never wear as they are still nice. This pair need the garbage!

If they caused that much pain for me they'd be long gone, but I do have other shoes that I could never wear as they were a bit smaller than they seemed in the store that are still under my bed. Problem is those were well over a hundred dollars and I cannot throw them out. I've thought of selling them online, but I've never bothered just yet.

@paigea I don't buy expensive shoes, I bought more suitable shoes for different ocassions. I even use light sandals for shopping too.

Yes, that would be hard to get rid of when they were expensive. Selling them is a good idea.

@Chungshop I don't buy expensive shoes either, but I have to buy shoes with support and shoes that I can fit my orthotics into as I have some foot problems. Which is why I should throw those shoes away

It LOOKS like they would be comfortable - but I guess they are not? If I pay for anything, I just want to make sure I get my money's worth before throwing them out. And if it was totally not worth the money spent, I will make sure I get my more than my money's worth before throwing them out !

That's me, trying to get my money's worth out of these shoes. I thought they would be comfortable to wear at work in the winter when we always wear boots outside. They are the worst shoes I've ever had!

Yes I throw out if they are uncomfortable - it usually means that I haven't worn them much, so they can go to the charity shop.

No. I have a whole house full of things I haven't thrown out but should be. If your shoes are that uncomfortable, it's time to get rid of them.

They are terrible shoes. I have gradually been getting rid of things all over the house. It is easier to get rid of things that are good enough to donate. It is hard for things that the thrift shop doesn't want but that I think are not quite garbage.

It's a shame they're not good for something. You could always put a couple of holes in the soles and use them as plant pots. I've seen old boots end up sprouting colourful flowers from the top.

if they hurt, they should move to a new home, don't pitch, donate! Feet need to be cared for, and bad shoes will hurt you more in the long run! And possibly cause other health issues and cost more

@paigea well that's their decision I suppose. or you could leave them at home, use them for the "take the trash to the street/get the mail" type of shoes. I have a pair of slipons for that NEVER leave my property, lol. I wore bad shoes too much and have feet problems now, so I am much more careful with my shoes
