I woke up to an email saying "Your Amazon password has been changed" - I didn't change my password, I just woke up!
The e-mail stated that Amazon discovered a list of emails and passwords posted (although not related to Amazon) they "think" my email/password was listed. I need to immediately change my password when I log in.
That is scary. I have to go through some of my personal accounts and change my passwords. I don't have the same passwords but for the safe side I'm going to update them.
Do you have the same passwords for all your websites? Or do you change it up? Did you receive this email from Amazon also?

Never use the same password - each site should have a unique one. No I didn't get that one. But I do change passwords frequently especially money related ones.

@JohnRoberts That's one way - I prefer a different method. At one time when I did a lot of mystery shopping I was signed up with over 200 companies.

Yes, but with every site demanding a password you have to have a journal listing them all. I don't advocate using the same password but just illustrating we live in a password crazy world. Site that you once could freely enter now demand you sign up thus another password.

I researched on Amazon and it looks like if the email address does end in @amazon.com then it's legit according to Amazon.
But also the email did not contain any links for reset so I think I will be safe. I just reset my password anyway.

@akalinus I don't have the lock feature? Are you using Mac or PC? The email did not contain any links so I think it's fine.

@infatuatedbby The genuine site for both paypal and amazon have a green padlock in the beginning of the address bar. If you don't see it, be careful.

I got the same email from Amazon. It was referring to me linking the site to my phone. I never tried to do that and since the email did not call me by name, I know this was a fake email. I haven't received any phishing emails in quite awhile, but now this one popped up.

@infatuatedbby I did it too and got an email back confirming that I had done that... from the same email address, with no salutation. Perhaps it was a legit email.

@patgalca I think it is legitimate but I'm not quite sure why we received the email or what website is our email address and password is exposed on - I'm curious because not everyone received this email

I would careful. There are scammers that can use a detection device to see what password you log in with. I'd call them.

Ah but is the email actually from Amazon, genuine or scam email?

It looks to be authentic.
According to Amazon - If the "from" line of the e-mail contains an Internet Service Provider (ISP) other than @amazon.com, then it's a fraudulent e-mail.
The e-mail address I received does end in @amazon.com
There wasn't a link to reset my passcode - just instructions how. I was already logged in and wasn't kicked off so I just reset my passcode. I hope it wasn't a fraud/scam email though.

@infatuatedbby Mine was from account-update @ amazon.com but it was addressed simply "Hello". If it is from Amazon (or any other legit company) they would address you by your full name, and not your email address either. Your first and second name.

hackers are everywhere so use a different password per site you joined to. and then write them in your paper incase you forget them.

I hate remember passwords too! I write mine in a little journal since I always try to make a unique one for each site I go to!

My passwords for the important sites are all very different. The ones for the low security sites are less complicated. With all those passwords, I sometimes can't get into my accounts at all. It is so confusing, especially when I have to keep changing them.
I checked my email and there was nothing alarming from Amazon. Always change your password if you even suspect anything is wrong.
