I want to check and see if there are any updates I can install for my chrome browser. It's running slow, sometimes doesn't load a page at all. I have two addons on the browser. One I have had since the very beginning, it shows a reputation for the page you are on, works a lot like the malware bytes add on I had for firefox. The other is the swagbutton.
My browser acts slow but it's been doing it since the beginning and no worse since I added swagbucks button. Sometimes I can't even get to a website unless I search it through swagbucks so no I don't want to get rid of the button.
My browser is slow though and I want to check for updates. I am no chrome girl, I"m used to firefox. How do I check for updates on my browser?

I am all up for suggestions. Firefox started acting up for me so I switched to Chrome. My computer is older but still running pretty good. I have good malware / antivirus sofware and I use CCleaner.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I cannot think why Firefox would act up in any way. Personally I have used several different browsers because I always accept whichever is the default browser installed with an operating system. The only I did not like was Chrome, although it should fine on most computers.

@Asylum I have used firefox, chrome, opera and even netscape (which turned into firefox I believe).
I haven't had (other than this most recent) problems with chrome but have been told it has security vulnerabilities. My computer runs windows 10 and became just the slightest bit slower because of it. It could have something to do with that as well but I'm not really sure.
I'm not the "techy" in the family but try to learn enough to keep my electronics running smoothly.

My son told me Chrome is the best and really fast. When I first started using Chrome it was horribly slow, not sure why. I still use it for myLot and several other sites, and Firefox for others. Seems here lately Chrome is faster which makes me happy. I'm not sure what to tell you to speed it up.

FIrefox came to a crawl for me and so I had to uninstall. I never reinstalled as it did not work with mylot at all. I have edge and chrome now.

I've gotten a few good tips. It appears I may have to uninstall and reinstall it myself. We shall see. Firefox I had to get rid of, it kept acting up.

Sorry! I won't be any help. I use Safari most of the time. And if Safari fails on me - I have Chrome as back up..

It's ok. I've got it figured out. I uninstalled one extension and hoping that will take care of it.
I forgot about safari completely. I think I tried it out once a long while back.

Plug ins / extensions are the same thing. Already doing / have done that. It does seem to be the slightest bit better. Of course I'll have to replace this whole laptop and may end up going with another browser in the future anyway. Thanks.

You should probably go to your task manager when Chrome is running and check how much memory it consumes. Then you can disable the add-ons or extensions that consume too much memory.

@HarishSubramanian I will look into Citrio and see if it is something I could use. THank you for the suggestion.

I'd also recommend you use a chrome based browser like Citrio instead, it's much lighter in terms of memory usage

why?
I was a firefox user for the longest time. That was up until maybe three or so months ago. It just did not want to work right with my windows 10 and it seemed like firefox was forever needing updates. Things kept crashing and I couldn't get on mylot without opening up notepad to respond to things.
Chrome has been good to me, other than a little slow.

Not much help, but I was having issues with chrome. It would freeze or give me this "chrome has stopped/shutdown" message. So annoying. I was going to remove it from my tablet, but then it stopped acting crazy a couple months ago. Now it works fine.

Hmm never thought to use chrome on my tablet. Glad they got it patched up for you though.

You can check under the about tab. I wish that Chrome would alert people when there is an update available.

instead of just doing it in the background, I agree.

I was afraid of that. I am sure I'll have to do that if it keeps giving me trouble. I hope it will retain all my bookmarks as I've never had to uninstall and reinstall chrome.
