Lucky Money

Have you ever found money? I am not talking about a lost wallet, but rather coins on the ground, loose change on a chair, or a paper bill blowing on the sidewalk.
I was reprimanded by my husband for stooping to pick up a penny at the entrance way of our hotel. I know it can be dirty, but money is money. It also is said to bring good luck. And I do wash my hands.
Later that day, I found two more pennies. Just yesterday I found 3!
Years ago, a friend told me to save all found money and never spend it, since it would bring good luck or bad luck, if spent. Now I have jars of it.
Does it bring me good luck? Perhaps, but I am biting my tongue. I don't want to jinx myself.
What do you do when you see money on the ground? Do you ignore it or pick it up? Do you save it or spend it?

@DianneN Practically every shop here has a charity collection tin on their counters. It's a good idea because people often put their small change in them.
I'm careless when it comes to money and do forget about it. On our last trip to Spain I forgot the euros and left them at home, but now I'll remember to take them when we go back there next week.

@jaboUK I have seen those small containers in some shops here. Men usually don't want to carry change in their pockets, so they put their change in them. We always use credit cards. You must be getting excited for your trip. Will you be staying in the same hotel???

The only money I have found is coins, mostly pennies. They aren't much but I put it with my other coins that I have. I never anticipate finding money when I go for my walks, but I do once in a great while. You are right, money is money, no matter how much or how litttle it is.

I always pick it up too. Once many years ago I found a 5 dollar bill frozen in the ice on a sidewalk. I chipped that sucker out lol.

@DianneN My brother is always finding money. He was once found 1/2 of a $50 bill and he gave it to me. I went to the bank and they gave me $25.

Yay for finding money. Money is money - I'll pick it up too. I keep all my coins in a container then when it's full - I'll redeem it at the machine.

@sueznewz2 I always wonder who lost it and how, why, what did they need it for, etc. it's usually the ones who can least afford to lose it, it seems.

I do pick it up @DianneN . I've found pennies, dimes, nickels AND quarters on the ground; mostly outside of the Dollar Stores. I toss them in the center console of the car and if I need to use it, I do. I once found a 100 bill on the floor going through a checkout at the grocery. I knew it had to belong to the 2 guys in front of me, so I gave it to the cashier and she went running out the door. She came back and said she didn't find them, which I thought was strange since it wasn't more than 1 minute after they walked out the door to when I handed it to her.

@DianneN Nope, she said she would keep it at the register in case they came back. I have a feeling it went into her pocket.

I sometimes find money when I walk on the beach with my friends. One day, I found several dollars just blowing along the beach ... and there was no one else there! So, I used the money towards the cups of coffee and tea we get after our walks. It didn't pay for it all, but it was fun to use our "money from heaven" for a little treat!

@DianneN - Kona from heaven is a great name for it. I'll remember to call it that if it ever happens again.

I pick up every penny or any kind of currency I can find. I remember the day I parked my car in the car ramp and as I got out there was a wad of bills just lying there. Of course I picked it up. It wasn't a wallet, it was loose. Then an hour later I found even more money. That happened three times the same day. Such luck has not been repeated. However, at the time it came in very handy in paying for my son's new pair of glasses. It was during a time when he went through glasses every week. The eye doctor started giving us a discount. He was in early grade school and lost them on purpose. He also hasn't done that since and now he pays for his own glasses

@DianneN Looking back on those days I wonder how we were able to constantly pay for a new pair of glasses almost every week. He wore them to school, but he rarely came home with them. He always had an excuse for losing them too.

I have before and there's always the constant questioning of it. I mean for an example one time I found $40 on the ground. Like what do you do in that situation? If you turn it in somewhere will it ever get to the rightful owner? Or will the people that you turn it into keep the money? In that particular scenario I let the person that I was with make the decision on what to do with it because I didn't want to feel guilty about keeping it.

In a case like that, I would hold on to it until someone asks me if I found $40 - the exact amount. One can't be too trusting. I would never ask if someone lost $40. I would ask it someone lost any money and how much. Otherwise, finders keepers.

@DianneN Yeah it's one of those things where you don't want to describe it but let the person who lost it describe it. That's like when I "lost" my iPod several years ago. What happened was that I was at Girl Scout camp and on the cleaning day my job was to check to see if anyone had anything under their beds. Well as I was bending over checking under beds my iPod fell out of my pocket. I heard two girls giggling that they found an iPod and spoke up immediately describing it to prove that I was the rightful owner.

I often pick it up, unless it's somewhere a kid is likely to see it, and then I leave it for them.

I'm blinded by your 100 dollar bill money fan. I've double counted it to find out how many bills are there - the top row has 49 bills and bottom has 36 bills. That's 85 hundred dollars $_$ If I see money on the ground I'd pick it up. If it's a family member I'd return it to them. When I worked in schools I would save it up and buy stuff for the children if no one came up to claim it. I've never seen money when I'm out but if I do I guess I would save it.

That money was my son's. It was only for a small deposit for the engagement ring he's getting for his girlfriend. He has the rest of the money hidden away. He's hoping the ring will be ready Friday. He wants to pay in cash. I couldn't count the money. Lol! You are doing the right thing with the money you find.

@DianneN Wow, I knew something was up with that big amount of cash. So it's for your son's engagement ring. The money fan looks nice. Thanks, I guess it's what anyone would do.
