Do You Like to Dance?

February 23, 2016 1:41pm CST
Do you like to dance? Back in the day, I always swore I would marry someone who loved to dance as much as I. I truly did tear up the dance floor in my youth. My favorite was to do big band swing dance, but I also enjoyed country swing dance. I would go two-stepping with friends. Line dances were always fun. And of course, just grooving to the current music at clubs was a blast. I met my husband who pretty much only slow dances. And you know, honestly, I find slow dancing rather boring! One thing I never thought I would do is square dancing. My parents did square dancing most of my childhood. And, of course, since my parents did it, I did not think it was cool or fun. In fact, I thought it was rather square (yes, pun intended). About a month ago, our group of friends had an opportunity to participate in a free or close to free 12 week learn-to-square-dance. I initially just thought it would be fun for my oldest two kids. I had no intention of joining or making my husband join. When i saw the group of 70, or so, people enjoying themselves immensely, I realized that I wanted to do it as well! So the next week, I made my husband come. He didn't think he would enjoy it. But he grudgingly joined us. Imagine his surprise when he liked it too! So here we are, four weeks later, and we are all enjoying it! The kids, the grown ups, yep, all of us! I don't know what will happen when the class is over. The instructor is talking about forming a group that meets twice a month. However, most of us have busy schedules with our kids. So I don't know that any of us want twice a month. I'd be happy to do it maybe once a month. We'll see. Do you like to dance?

It sounds like a blast @jillybean1222 . I was a Go-Go Dancer in the 70's & 80's. I've always loved to dance. I can't anymore though and that really sucks.

@jillybean1222 LOL I don't blame ya. Slow dancing can be a bit boring at times. But, I can dance fast a little bit, but, only to my own style, which, I've never been taught fast dancing. I know that there are some techniques that are fairly easy, but, nobody has never taught me! LOL

I don't mind the slow dancing sometimes, but I'd much rather have a little hop to my step

They taught us to square dance when I was in elementary school. We performed for our parents every year. It was a blast.

I love to grove to the music and in the 60's and 70's I was a rock star (in my head) I grew up with square dance, the twist, and a lot of other dances that are no longer done. I married a man who loved to jitterbug (he was better at that than I was - he was a bit older than I) but we moved smoothly for years on the dance floor.... Still married, still love each other, don't dance any more. But my advice to you is to have fun....no matter what you do. Dancing is a charming way to say I Love You.

I do. I married someone who didn't dance at all He's history, literally. I did enjoy square dancing as a kid so I know you're having fun with it.

I like dance rather I love. My mood became fresh when I dance. I am not so good in dance in spite of that I do dance just because it's my passion. I don't need any company ,when I want to dance I do it.

I love to dance only for the sake of shedding off any excess pounds but I am certain that i am not graceful so I am not really into such kind of dancing. I am more into singing.

I used to love to dance but can't do it anymore. Like you, I loved two stepping and line dances. I think I would enjoy square dancing as well. Maybe one day I can do it again if I can get my RA under control.

I always loved ballroom dancing and had some great times over the years. The period where my husband played drums in a dance band rather spoilt things though.
