First thing this morning I stood in front of the Dearborn heater. I had to go out and get the paper.

It was a windy brisk cold morning and I had to remove the tarp over the trunk lid. I used gallon milk jugs full of tap water to hold it down. I used pipe foam insulation all around the edges of the trunk lid. It won't close all the way because the trunk pull down motor is dead. Now the trunk lid stays up a half inch and can get water in when it rains and boy did it rain all day yesterday.

Did your strategy keep the water out of the trunk?

Yes, in spite of the 40 mph wind gusts! I wish I could clap my hands and the darn pull down motor would reactivate. It has been a problem for over 5 years and we drove around most the time with the trunk lid closed. I went out today to see if I could persuade the thing to move but it won't budge one iota.

@paigea , using pipe insulation all around the gasget lining is the best I can manage.

Sounds like you need to have this repaired before you get more rain.

@paigea I remember a song called Pennies from Heaven and I think it was Frank Sinatara who sang it. Wonderful song to hear.
