Man dies of overdose after completing drug rehab

February 24, 2016 8:42am CST
Logan Whiteaker, 24-years old from Tennessee, successfully underwent an 18- month-long drug rehab program. Monday evening he graduated from Hamilton County Drug Court. His mother was so happy that he was off drugs. 24 hours later Logan left his mother's home to 'run errands' and that was the last she time she talked to him, she told him she loved him. Logan died of what they are calling an apparent drug overdose. Being clean wasn't his drug of choice. Rehab for 18 months, clean and sober, happy family and friends - all gone, wasted time, wasted life. When will they learn..... photo: pixabay.com/en/dog-eyes-anxious-close-142668/

So sad that some young people can't stay away from that bad stuff.

That is terrible. I wonder what drove him over the edge considering he went without for so long.

This is so sad. I really feel for his mother. She would have been so happy - for a very short time.

@AbbyGreenhill It just seems impossible to give up for some - or even most. I don't understand it either. After so many well-publicised deaths, etc, young people still seem to think it is okay to experiment.

@AbbyGreenhill I agree. They see themselves as invincible - or strong enough to be able to give it up if they want to.

@cindiowens Yes, but that just made it harder to accept what he did I think. I thought of you Saturday - we stopped in R. Stover for some mint patties!

@AbbyGreenhill at least it kept him alive for that 18 months.

Terrible news. How could he not think of his family and himself? I imagined his mother's shock when she knew the truth. What a blow!

You can say that again, 'when will they learn?' I cannot understand what joy people get from abusing substance like that. It's beyond me. It is the most selfish thing they can do. They get their moment of 'high', while their loved ones suffer. And after 18 months being sober? I know it is horrible to say, but that was just stupid. It was a waste of all the time and effort spent on getting him back on track.
