Amazon is Raising Shipping Prices

Amazon will be raising their shipping rates from $35 to $49 except for non Prime members.
I am wondering if they think more people will join in the Prime Membership for $99 a year with the 2 day shipping for eligible orders.
Having to spend more to get free shipping, which is still slower than Prime shipping, could convince some customers to make the switch to Prime.
Who is already a Prime Member?

What I dont like about Amazon shipping is that sometimes it switches over to the post office delivering stuff instead of UPS.
That is so annoying, here someone is paying for prime shipping membership and then they get the dang useless post office delivering stuff that gets lost and delivered to wrong addresses. Useless.
So even no matter what one pays, I think they should not do that to people who pay for prime.

@fishtiger58 It is fish. I dont know why they do it. The post office here is absolutely useless anymore. I rarely get my packages if delivered by them or rather not delivered.

@TiarasOceanView I don't have a problem with my local post office, and I need them as I'm a seller on ebay and etsy. They are still cheaper than UPS or FedEx or any of those guys.

I so agree, they do that too. And if UPS delivers to my post office after my mailman has gone I don't get it until the next day. They did this to me just recently and then later I saw a UPS truck in my neighborhood, so why wasn't my package delivered by them. It's ridiculous

The only reason that I have shopped on Amazon is because I earned Amazon gift cards on other earning sites. I rarely shop there, but when I do, it's usually a big bill anyway (most likely for Christmas, or a furniture piece) so it would probably be over $49. I would shop well ahead of time, so I'm never in a hurry for the items either. I'm sure Prime is worth it for some, but not for someone like me.

@much2say I used to buy books from Amazon and would buy extras so I wouldn't have to pay the shipping price but now since we are streaming I decided to become a Prime Member when they had the special price on it and now also I have some sites where I receive Amazon gift cards to shop there. My family have me order things for them also so they don't have to pay the shipping.

@softbabe44 I don't know if that is the reason or is it because others are raising their prices and in order to stay in business they have to also.

I think it's really the post office that raised their shipping prices, so Amazon and other sites have raised theirs because the post office did.

@AbbyGreenhill I agree but the cost is going to the customer, Amazon is all about the profits.

They might be good but that does not give them a license to overcharge people.you should welcome Indian firms superior service at one tenth you pay at present

Here the shipping rates increased long time ago. In the past the shipping fee might be about 39 yuan but then it was 99 yuan. This is a big increase and I am very disappointed to it. Since the online business is quite competitive here and other online stores have a lower shipping rates than Amazon.cn. This is why I haven't bought anything from Amazon for a long time. I hope they will realize it.

My son is a Prime Member by accident. He missed the cut off date. I'll still go the regular route as I have gift cards and if I put them on Storm's account he'd spend them all! 35 or 49 still isn't costing me a penny.

I'm on a free prime trial right now. Its almost over. I can't afford to give $100 all at once. Wish I could.
I have a hard enough time getting $35 for the free shipping, specially since I have to pay tax now too when a long time I never did because they didn't have a warehouse in my state, or something like that.
I do like to shop through amazon most of the time. You can almost always find what you want for cheaper.

I am already a Prime member Luckily my sister pays for it and I just smooch off her lol. Well she offered. Because the account allows you to add a few more people so you can share it and divide the cost to make it worth it.

@alund2041 it seems as from what people have said that the Post Office is raising it's rates so Amazon will be doing the same.

I don't do enough business with amazon to worry about shipping rates because when I do I usually order enough to get free shipping.

If I ever reach the point where I buy enough from Amazon to spend $99 in shipping costs, then I will switch. Right now, I don't come close to spending that much.

@DeborahDiane I bought the prime membership more for the streaming service but I do buy from amazon at times and it is nice to know my shipment will be here in two days.
