She's finally ready!

I'm happy, and a little stressed, to say that my oldest is finally ready for her braces to be put on. She's 13, will be 14 in a few months, and we've been waiting for her to be ready for her braces. She, unfortunately, inherited my tiny mouth and doesn't have room for all of her teeth. The teeth that the orthodontist decided to have removed, same one's I had removed when I had braces, were taken out over a year ago, maybe even two years, but we've had to wait for the other adult teeth to come in enough to put the braces on them. She saw the orthodontist on Monday and he said that she is finally ready for the braces. While I'm happy that she will be on her way to having straight teeth, I'm not looking forward to the bill. In total it will cost us over $6500 for her braces. From what I've heard, that's actually fairly typical in cost, but I'm not looking forward to the payments. We have to have about $1100 down when she gets the braces on, which is in about a month, and then have monthly payments for the next 21 months. They expect her to have them on for a full two years, so she will be almost 16 when they come off. I'm not looking forward to the bill, but I think it will be worth it when she's done.

The bill is not fun but the end result is well worth it, especially if they are needed badly. My son had them and his were on for just over 2 years, i don't remember the cost exactly but we had dental insurance with orthodontia on it which took like $1000 or $1500 off the total cost, but he has straight teeth now. Well worth every penny. Good luck to your daughter, remember to good a bunch of soft, easy to swallow food for when she has to go in and have them tightened, that was the worst.

We have insurance that covers $1500 of it, which will definitely help. Unfortunately we are paying for our son to have his retainer and headgear, in preparation for braces, right now too. Between the two of them, it's over $500 a month once she starts.

I had braces twice for the same reason. Both my boys had them. It looks like my granddaughter will need them. Ugh!

Wow, that's a heck of a lot of money, but for her to have a nice smile it will be worth it.

I had no idea that braces were so expensive. But like you said, it will definitely be worth it.

It is worth it. My daughter needed braces and she got them. It made her life easier to have good teeth and a happy smile. It was expensive. Fortunately our boys didn't need them.

I think when you see the state of some people's teeth it makes the cost slightly easier to bear. It is a lot of money though and a lot of payments.

That is a lot of money! My son will need braces when he gets older as well, sadly his adult front teeth came in really crooked. =( I am not looking forward to that bill either.

Wishing her the best (My nieces had them and complained but later were glad they got them while I told them how lucky they were that their parents could afford them and were willing to get them)
