Tornadoes in the USA

I saw the terrible news about Tornadoes that have happened in the USA. It seems there were Tornadoes in Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida. The worst affected was a caravan park or Trailer park as it is called in the USA. The trailer park was practically totally destroyed. Three people lost their lives in the devastation and 30 others were hospitalised.
Apparently we have around 34 Tornadoes a year here in the UK although nothing as devastating as the ones we usually associate with America. The most frequent place for these to happen is between London and Reading.
I have seen these twisters for real and they are very frightening. I understand in some areas people build Tornado shelters under their homes?
The bizarre thing as soon as I read this I started to think of some of the members on Mylot and hoped that they were all safe?
Did you hear about this. Have you ever experienced a tornado?

I have seen the results of the storms in the UK one year as we drove out from London, it was quite devastating to trees especially. We were under a tornado alert here in our area of Ocala.

@garymarsh6 I think I was actually there in London, the trains were down and we had to cancel some plans.

The worst storm we had was in 1997 when a hurricane hit Southern England. There was so much damage it was believable. My parents lost the roof of their house. Some houses had their windows blown in on one side of the house and blown out on the other side. Millions of trees were lost even the five of the Seven Oaks at Sevenoaks were destroyed. Thankfully they were replanted otherwise they might have had to change the name of the town to twooaks!

@garymarsh6 Yes, I think to remember that they call them trailer homes. Some are very nice, but of course they are not as solid as a real brick (or concrete) house with foundations.

Yes how terrible Anna. They were mainly mobile homes. I think they call them trailer homes in the USA.

Discussions on MyLot are often the first indication I have that 'something' has happened somewhere and so it is again. That is very sad. I read posts by some saying they were expecting bad weather in their area. Like you, I hope they've all come through unscathed.

It must be terrible to be at the mercy of the power of nature. Similarly to the great fires of Australia.

Yes thank the lord. In comparison of losing a few slates here and there it is nothing compared to the super tornadoes in the USA.

I have never experienced a tornado. My BFF lives in Oklahoma and they have had some close calls. I have lived through two earthquakes but that is all I have experienced.

We live in central Mississippi and experienced this wicked weather all around us, but we were blessed and it didn't cause us harm. More severe weather is expected tomorrow.

I did hear and I think where we were in Florida might have been hit by this last one. Haven't heard for sure. I went to College in Kansas and when married we returned to Kansas. I would not live in a place unless it had a basement. It gave me peace of mind..They have sirens when one is spotted and it was comforting to know I just had to walk down the stairs into the basement. Trailer parks are always flattened if hit. Very dangerous in a tornado.

Yes I guess they are so light they just fly off and break up in the strong winds.

Tornadoes are common in the spring and early summer in the area where I live. Fortunately, we have not suffered any serious tornadoes and/or tornado damage recently. It scares me whenever there is a tornado warning in effect for my area because I live in a trailer park and park does not provide a tornado shelter.

OH lord. I think that the senate should legislate that parks should provide you with a tornado shelter seeing as many people live in trailer homes.

Yes, there was one in my state that killed 3 people. I had one here at my house several years ago, one was enough!
