As every year the migration of frogs has started. After the winter hibernation, they are moving to the ponds to lay the eggs. They will remain until the end of April. The usual "Frogs Crossing" sign has appeared on the main road. I know that some of them will come to our pond. Soon the nights will be filled by the croaking of the frogs. By mid May our pond will be filled with dozens of tadpoles, enjoying the sun and eating mosquito larvae. Do you have frogs in your area?

How interesting that must be to see the tadpoles develop into frogs in your own pond. I sometimes have one lone frog in my garden, but I've no idea where he comes from as we have no water at all.

The tadpoles are cute, when I have to clean the pond I move them into a large pail. When they develop their little legs, sometimes they escape and I have little frogs all over the garden.

@TiarasOceanView I remember that one night, I think it was late April, I went outside with a torch to try to chase them. They were more annoying than usual. They calmed down after my visit.

I cannot remember the last time that I actually saw a frog, although they are quite abundant in England.

I see them all the time from early March to late August. I do not care about the frogs, but I do not like so much the toads.

The frogs in our pond - spring peepers my husband calls them - started last week. They make so much noise all day and night I can't stand it. If I had know I wouldn't have bought a house with a pond.

I am also pretty annoyed by the noise they make, my neighbor told me that they came even before we made the pond, they used to stay in the small streams near our garden. I am glad to know we are not the guilty ones.

@LadyDuck If they shut up at night it would be OK, but I can hear them as clear as a bell when I go to bed....I yell at them but they don't listen!

The frigs in the swamp sing all night long, even when it got cold and we had snow flurries, they sang. I am sure we have frogs all year round.

You are lucky that you could see frogs around you. Here in New Delhi, due to massive urbanisation and jungles of concrete, there are very few pools/ponds left. Please do not feel surprised, if I say that I have not seen a frog for ages in my area. I remember we used to have lots of frogs in rainy season around us, when we were little kids. We used to even catch hold of them in our palms and they would piss on our hands because they get very nervous, if caught.

@LadyDuck - I forgot to mention that you have uploaded an awesome picture. Ha ha ha ha........at that time we were kids and too young to understand that we should not do such things to tiny frogs. It was all in fun.

I miss frogs, as none in my community that I have seen. The city next to me use to have some near the creek, but they are gone. Its probably our normally dry area and a lack of water.

Surely frogs need water and safe ways to cross the roads or they will be all killed and none will remain. They make tunnels here to make them safely cross the roads.

@LadyDuck I am not sure if the snakes that come to eat frogs are poisonous or not but I would not want to have them around. The size of snakes does not determine if they are poisonous or not.

@allknowing I know, we have poisonous snakes in the area, but they stay up in the mountains. I can recognize local poisonous snakes and what we call "water snakes", that are those that are in my garden.

The frogs can be very noisy during the night, but they eat mosquito larvae that is very good. We do not have poisonous snakes, the two that are in the garden are small snakes that eat slugs. I do not like them, but they are useful.

Yes, we have frogs here, a lot of them too. But, maybe not as many as there are in your place because in my 58 years there hasn't been a "Frogs crossing" note on our roads. And we hear of their croakings especially during rainy nights.

We do have frogs. Love all the varied calls they have. I know the frogs do the same thing here but have only seen it once. I was trying to get out of a state park and the roads were covered in huge bull frogs. I just had to wait them out or crush them under my tires there were that many. Didn't want to do that so I waited for like 30 minutes, then there was a thinning of the crowd, hubby got out of the car and chased the rest off the road so we could go home.
