No not here in Florida, luckily we have underground utilities but I got a call from my grandson Alex who is house sitting for us in Connecticut telling me the electricity was out. The heavy winds and rain have caused a lot of outages our neighborhood is one of them. I was able to contact the electric company and they were aware of the outage. They said that the power should be restored by tomorrow night. Hopefully, the weather will stay above freezing.

I hope that the power will be fixed soon and that the weather will stay above freezing in Conneticut. As an aside, when we have a power outage we just call 1800 Power ON as we have duke power.

@BelleStarr advancements in technology , huh? I don't know if Duke Power has any of that but it's just as easy to make the quick call. luckily ours doesn't go out so much during storms.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I think the problem comes in when thousands of people are without power, it overwhelms the phone system

That won't be much fun for grandson to be without power for all that time.

It's so bad to lose electricity in the winter. The fan on the heater doesn't work and it gets cold. I hope they get it on sooner than tomorrow night.

@fishtiger58 We have had those kind of storms too but I have to say our power company has made great strides in getting trees cut back to help avoid this problem but of course the high winds that this storm brought were hard to overcome.

@BelleStarr I remember one winter we had a huge ice storm, took 3 cold days to get our power back.

If you are from a third world country these issues of power outages seem like such a silly thing. I do not mean to offend anybody, its just that we never worry about such issues.

Yes I know that they are much more common in third world countries but keep in mind that it is much colder here and our pipes can freeze which makes it a bigger issue.

@BelleStarr yes i certainly do agree with that point but also i could counter-act with : there are many places in Russia, Siberia or other polar places where people have no access to electricity and yet live happily and merrily.

I was worried that we would lose electricity a couple of days ago. The wind was horrible and we had quite a thunderstorm too. I think it is supposed to warm up this weekend. I heard 35 tomorrow and 55 on Sunday and we are North of Connecticut.

That was the first thing I told Alex, not to open the freezer under any circumstances. I think it was out less than 30 hours so it should be okay.

Storms like those the US are getting are incredibly destructive. Here with extended power failures we worry about stuff in the freezer defrosting and spoiling. Is it too cold there for this to be an additional problem?

Yes the first instructions I gave Alex was don't open the freezer for any reason. But this time of year is not like summer, it should be fine.

I think mine is back on but Alex went home to his parents but it is not too cold there only in the 40s so no danger of freezing. It is just hard being here and not being able to check on it.

We lost power for a little the other night. So did others in our area. I think some lost their electricity for longer than we did. We're lucky as we live near a hospital and two seniors homes. So we generally don't lose power for very long.

He does work long hours so he will be fine, he went home so he could work on his class homework since there is no Internet without the electricity.
