Its getting really hot and summery here and I need to drink loads of water to keep myself hydrated and going. Drinking plain water is not very pleasant for everyone. My children ask for fresh juice all the time. As for me I cannot have sweet juice all the time. Even fruit sugars aren't really all that good when you are trying to cut down sugars. So I drink plain water and fruit and spice/herb flavored water to keep me cool I often add slices of ginger, oranges/lemon and mint to my water. This aids digestion and help combat inflammation and bug attack. At times I just add some coriander ( the seeds) or cumin to the water and leave it over night. Sometimes its just a slice of pineapple to my water. It makes drink plain water less boring without adding extra calories to my drinks. I never buy flavored water. Which do you like to drink flavored water, plain water, juice, or soda in summer? And why? Maybe you will give me more ideas to keep hydrated this summer. Pic credit Pixabay

@sueznewz2 I drink about 21/2 liters of water or more these days so it could get boring. These natural fruits/herbs and spices are very healthy to use and flavorful too.

@sueznewz2 That explains it. In summer I can go upto three liters of water. so I like a bit of variation.

Inever tried putting a fruits or something on my water . Just plain water for me , but it must be so chilled to make me drink a big glass of it . I don't know though of a cooler that don't have sugar on it . I suppose you remember the Philippine 's halo- halo . It's a very refreshing and filling way to beat the heat of summer . Speaking of summer , in a week , we will be having summer already . Oh my , my hot flushes will be triggered again .

@SIMPLYD Just a few slices of lemon in water an make you feel like drinking huge glasses in one shot. Try it this summer. I am also told that ginger slices in water help reduce hot flushes.. I have not tried that though.

I drink sparkling water, sometimes I add some orange or lemon zests, or a slice of lime, it is delicious and has no calories. I do not see the reason to pay more for flavored water when it is so easy to make flavored water at home.

@LadyDuck That is so true. The zest or the slice of fruit would add a bit more nutrition and flavor to water naturally and is a healthier option.

@sofssu In my opinion it's better, because you do not add to your drink unnecessary sugar.

plain water for me its the best choice the flavored stuff is good but I just don't want to pay extra to have it. I have soda on occasion. I like juice but the funny thing is I really don't drink it even when I buy it for the house. Water that you make however sounds interesting in terms of flavor profile. I saw on a cooking show them making home made teas and stuff to drink and now you made me want to try to make some.

@OKennedy I cut three or four thin slices of lemon, four or five small twigs of mint and four or five slices of ginger to one and a half liters of water. You can adjust the ingredients to your taste.

whats the difference between fruit flavored water and fruit juice?

@MGjhaud Here we just add a few slices of fruit or a few spices. The fruit juice is the liquid extract of the fruit and contains higher calories which I need to avoid.

well, technically we do need more than just water. I would suggest this as another option, or something like this anyways.
This homemade electrolyte sports drink is an alternative to store-bought drinks with artificial ingredients. Vitamins + Electrolytes.

@Jessicalynnt Thanks for the link. I checked that recipe out.. I don't think I will go to that much trouble. We drink a lot of coconut water here.. especially in summer. It surely does help keep dehydration at bay.

I only drink water. This is rain water from our taps. When it rains, the water from the roof runs into a large tank and this supplies the water for our house. It also supplies the water that we drink. I never feel bored with drinking plain water.

@JudyEv Rain water is not only natural but the best drink you could have.. But here in the city even that would be polluted I guess.

Our bodies demand more water in summer. It is indeed a must to flush the toxin of the body, to help clear constipation and others. The need of water should be plain and not fruit juice with spices.Too much fruit juice means too much sweet to induce diabetes which no body wants. Occasionally juice may be taken and emphasis should be on the use of plain and pure water.

@ganesh24 Point well taken.. I drink around three liters of water of which half liter is floured.. there aren't much in the way of calories. Cumin, mint and ginger all have various health benefits too.

@sofssu The intake of water is dependent on individual need of the body according to the heat and humidity of the day. Some people drink more than the others. The people in the hot countries consume more water than in cold countries. I have already mentioned that one should be careful to see that high calorie soft drink should not be taken for imbalance in the body inviting diabetes. One should be one's guard.

Plain cold water is what I prefer if it's hot and I'm thirsty. Juice is okay but it makes me feel more thirsty afterwards. Weird.

I usually drink fruit juices from frozen, sofs. During the hottest part of the summer I drink water half the time and juice half the time. I am very careful to make sure I am drinking at least half and half with the water and juice... If I get more of one than the other, I do my best to make sure I get more water than juice. Even at work I keep two jugs in the fridge. One water and one juice.

I prefer to drink plain water and I don't put any flavored water or juice or soda in my refrigerator so that the 2 boys won't be tempted to drink any of that because they are both diabetics. I also take a bath 2 to 3x daily to fight heat from sunny days.
