What is on your mind?

One of my aunts has been diagnosed with cancer recently. She is a vibrant lady with exceptional teaching skills. She works as the head mistress in the Government run school in our native place. Her specialization is maths and she has taught all the kids in our family including me.
As a person, she is warm, caring and is kind of innocent too. She does not even realize people who manipulate her to their advantage. She is a great listener and a very cheerful person. The cancer news came as a huge shock to all of us.
Her personal life was highly stressful due to various factors, most of which we didn't have a clue till now. Now I realize her cheerfulness was a mask to hide whatever was really going on inside her mind. I feel such prolonged stress might have contributed to her illness in a major way. She could have confided with someone about how she was really feeling. She was always careful to avoid any negative comments around us and suffered silently. I feel angry with her for letting this develop and sorry that she had to suffer this way.
Now she has become more vocal after her illness. But she had to go through a lot to come to this stage.
We all need an outlet to our emotions. They can be our friends or family or colleagues. Currently she is undergoing treatment and has to strain physically too. If something is bothering you for a long time, please vent it out. Please don't let it fester and eat you.
Is it really difficult to honestly express one's feelings?

You have said such truth here my friend. One if you do not release these negative circumstances, one health can suffer immensely.
I feel such compassion for your dear aunt. May she regain some strength now that she is able to vocalize..I am so sorry to hear this bad news.
I know for myself, my health has and is suffering greatly due to circumstance. So I understand this.

You must have the right kind of people to vent out. If one is spiritually strong facing situations however difficult is possible.

@Scindhia No one else knows better than what we know about ourselves and besides getting help to tide over the difficult period there is nothing else anyone can do save our own strength to face it.

We all wait to vent our frustrations but sometimes people wear a mask not to hurt others taking all the blows themselves like a cannon fodder.
Trust she recovers to regain a healthy life. Good to know she has changed her attitude to life - siva

Sorry for your aunt's illness. I like to tell about my life to strangers as they are less judgmental and more sympathetic and you might not see them again. Friends sometimes use the information to hurt you by revealing it to someone else that you know. I used to do that but now do not seem to care as much as to what they do with the information. Please, continue to help you aunt.

Many people prefer to keep their troubles to themselves, it can be for a variety of reasons. I am glad though that she is getting treatment and is finally able to share her problems with her family. I will pray for her recovery.

I am so sorry your Aunt has cancer. With the modern medicine its esaier to live through the process. i hope she is one of the lucky ones. It is true, if you keep the anger in it hurts you and no one else. Sending her prayers.

People handle things in different ways that suit them best. I know I would not want to discuss a new illness. I would need time to process it and absorb the reality before opening myself up to others who may have strong opinions and disagree with how I wish to handle things.

Am sorry for what your aunt may have been going through but she needs your support more than ever. She has you and since she has agreed to open ,listen to her and even if this has come as a shock to you, don't show her that you are really scared about it.She needs to have hope but not regrets.

It can be. I know I don't like feeling like I'm a burden to anyone and will not talk about any illness of any kind. Though I haven't been ill for a very long time. Breaking my leg doesn't count. I wasn't sick. I was just badly inconvenienced.

She did not show the slightest symptom of being depressed. Its shocking how much stress can damage our system.
