People that suck you in

I have off today. I have been instant messaging a good friend as I do most mornings til one of us goes to work. But I need to run some errands and i was thinking do I or don't I invite the neighbor? Or go to the neighbor later if at all?
You see we have a wonderful neighbor who's fairly new and we get along TOO WELL! And by that I mean I could call her to mention something and i'm on the phone for 45 minutes. The same if I go over there, I was going to stop by and say hello... well I spent nearly by whole day by her chatting. I don't mind once in a while as she no longer works and is a chatter box like me. But I always worry if I go over there for something quick it'll be hours and my timing for everything else in my day will be messed up. Because I should of been accomplishing something else instead of chit chatting with her. Like I'm on here and messaging my friend when I need to get showered and go to a few stores. Thankfully she leaves shortly....
But do you avoid people that suck you in to coversations and it's hard to leave?

I have a friend that I love dearly, but she calls me daily while she is driving (hands free) and chats during all of her drive to get her hubby. I don't get a lot of words in, it is mostly listening and while I love talking to her at times I was just about go into the shower or just got a meal prepared. I've had to cut her off at times or other times I don't answer when she calls. I feel bad, but I know that a quick conversation is never going to happen, even if I need to run.

@3SnuggleBunnies Oh goodness my friend does this too. The other day I was in the shower, she called twice and by the third time I was out so I answered knowing she wouldn't stop until she told me whatever it was she thought was so important. My hubby won't answer when she calls and I don't blame him. I want to be supportive to her but our conversation is very repetitive and one sided.

I have a relative much like the neighbor who also calls... but the relative will keep you on the phone complaining about the same ol thing time after time. A short call for her is under 30 minutes. I too avoid answering the phone when I see her name pop up. My hubby hates how long she keeps me on the phone and won't tell me who called if I' not able to get the phone. But the relative will call back a few minutes later or on and off during the day til she talks to me. Gets annoying and like you just stop answering for a while.

I start lowering my voice or not hearing everything and my b est friend says oh I had better let you go talk to you later as she calls me most every day and I love her to pieces but we could go on chatting for an hour when I want to mylot and get a lot done

I did call her the other day and that was nearly a 2 hour phone call! Atleast talking on the phone is more freedom so I can get some stuff done rather in my home than sit with her or go shopping and things still need attending to at home.

The girl who babysits for me is like that. I can spend hours just chatting away with her, and I say "Ok, I gotta go" and half an hour later I"m still chatting.

Exactly! I can talk my whole day away with her but it's not getting my dinner ready, dishes washed, house picked up ect ect. Especially when I can get the most done when the kids are not home I need to try.

Such people seem to have unending interesting things to say to you and I think they sometimes hold you hostage with conversations such that even if you try to leave, they still say something makes you forget your intentions on what to do for the day.But anyway it's funny how some people are able to saturate with words of the mouth.

Exactly! I know I'm natorious at times for it myself! So it make it even more dangerous because I forget m intention to leave and keep chattering away myself off on yet another tangent.

I generally call people from my car when I'm on long journeys (hands free of course). If it's going on too long I just tell them that I'm running out of battery or hang up on them when I'm talking. They always think I lost the signal.

I have to do this with my sister and with some other people. I message a friend who lives an hour from me. I am over to her town now and again, but do not get my stuff done if I go see her. I am in a new town and do not have a lot of connections here, so my distracting friends are all on the internet.

Exactly, it would be one of those situations where you could maybe meet up for lunch or something and then an hour lunch turns into several hours.
