What are we trying to be? Why are we fighting to be something we are not sometimes?
My family was ridiculing me, calling me trash and redneck... for a moment I was insulted. I didn't fully understand and don't think they do either. Both terms are completely different - redneck is an American way of life -bonfires, drinking, hard work, and family - while trash is none of this but an uncontrollable force of greed and disrespect.
These terms hold over my head after walking away from a condo years ago which I couldn't afford nor get valuable renters in there soon enough, causing bad credit. I also submitted to becoming a stay-at-home mom for four to five years after this walk away.
I saved change from food shopping trips or bill pay to ensure some savings for my kids clothing or supplies. Never allowed to splurge because I didn't "earn the money myself", so I'd not look as classy as expected at every moment or have the most recent style objects. Yes I was in a controlling relationship, but didn't fully realize the extent at first, and it became worse when I tried to leave. Coming over my house was an embarrassment to family, even though all the furniture was given to me from them. I am their dumping ground for items they don't want anymore, hence why I'm probably considered trash to them.
So I'll take the term redneck any day over being fake, acting snooty pretending to be rich off credit. Really, you pay more for your purchases by swiping that card, what thirty percent on top of the purchase price. I am a hard worker even though I wasn't paid being a homemaker, and was a good, loyal partner, despise the verbal abuse.
I am not trash, I am strong, smart for attending college while being home, and have well mannered kids. I had everything I needed and tried to make the best of every situation, isn't that what life is about? I guess I don't have the mindset to worry about redecorating every season because I'm bored and just want to feed into consumerism. Go ahead pay extra for that over-priced shirt that you will only wear once!

Both those terms are degrading really. What really is a redneck. It has a negative overtime to it. As for living poor, most americans live that way these days. We have a government within a government that controls everything. And no politician can change that. No democrat nor republican. Although the republicans want to control all the money and keep it for themselves. While we all go hungry and lose our jobs. They lie all the time to us. So, being redneck or trash is a horrible thing to say to someone. I see most people from the southern states that are being fooled by our government. They work hard all their lives and wind up with nothing to show for it. We pay all the taxes here. Not the rich companies like the oil companies. We need to standup for ourselves. There are way too many labels for people and they are only designed to separate the masses of people. So we all fight one another. Like the north and south in this country. How stupid are we really. We must all be robots for the military industrial complex. We are all bette than that. Never try to live a life that was projected on you or forced on you or what the government thinks you should do. F them all. You are an individual and you have your own mid. Break free from all that crap and be the best person you can be. You will feel better.

I think the best thing to do in such a situation is hear nothing and do nothing.Be proud of who you are and don't try to change in order to please anyone and what's more life has lots of things to offer, your contentment with what you have matters a lot.
