Extra Time Today for Something Fun

Canada
February 29, 2016 10:29am CST
We had a busy weekend with a few guests this week. I made a big pot of beef stew for yesterday and because we have lots of leftovers, I don't need to cook dinner tonight. So maybe I will do some art today. I've been playing around with watercolours these past few years and am really enjoying the activity. Do you have a hobby you have started to do in the past little while or one you put aside while young that you are rediscovering?

My hobby is crocheting. I have been doing it since the age of 18, and I am 68. I enjoy making things for other people, as I get a real enjoynent out of it. The eople I make the items for, are blessed by me making the things for them as well.

@Sheilamarie78 I think I get as much a blessing from making things as much as they get a blessing from me doing it.

I still paint all year because my slate sells in local wineries, and stores. Photography and Painting are my two favorite things to do. I'd love to see what you do with watercolor.

I love both of those art forms, too. I should post a photo of one of my paintings soon. Was it hard to get your slates into the stores where they sell?

@PainsOnSlate I'm sure anyone who has sailed could relate to that sign! Well done!

@Sheilamarie78 No it was easy. because I do a small sign that is easy for me to make and it retails for around $20. (it takes me about a total of 5 to 10 minutes to do each one) Tourists are looking for something made locally. I approach a store in a good location and promise I won't put them in any other stores in the same town. There are hundreds of wineries around so I just picked a couple near where I live and they have been selling for me for years... Some are on consignment and others are wholesale. For the gift stores I do a bigger slate that retails for $35 too.

Drawing was my childhood hobby but I have not really returned to it because gardening has been dominating my life.

@Sheilamarie78 I'm reading Maeve Binchy at the moment. I call them 'soap operas in a book'. I like some of the old classics, historical novels, some whodunits. I avoid sci-fi, and anything violent and bloodthirsty.

@Sheilamarie78 You used to paint cards using water colors, didn't you?

@silvermist I have done that, but I also sell cards on my zazzle store (same name as I use here). Some of those cards have my watercolors, but most are of my photos of the mountains and other places near where I live.

I've come to my main hobbies late in life - gardening and computing. I've never tried painting, though my mother was a pretty good artist. She didn't discover that until she was getting on in years too.

@amadeo I've been trying to paint a little every day, though some days I don't get to it. If you lived closer, I'd invite you to my painting group. Having another person to be accountable to can help with the motivation.

Wouldn't it be great to have a few extra hours each day just for doing some of the things we love -- but then, there'd probably be an extra snack time and more dishes to wash!

I don't know. When I have free time I like spending it with my family playing to some table game, playing with my little brother or hanging with friends playing some sport or simply talking quietly.
