Lion or Lamb

There is an old saying, "If March comes in like a lion, it will go out like a lamb." I have heard that ever since I was a child, and I can remember years when it proved true, and others that were the opposite. Tomorrow is the first day of March, and there is a winter storm watch issued for our area. We had some freezing rain this morning, but is trying to clear up now. Once again everything is covered with ice. It looks like March will be coming in like a roaring lion in our area. So what do you think? Can we expect the end of the month will be like a gentle lamb? Only time will tell.

I had forgotten this saying. Hope it's true. Roaring here pretty much too. Snow and a little colder weather. It will be 62 tomorrow which will be nice. Off and on.

This has really been an interesting winter, changing so drastically from one day to the next. So we are used to the lion roaring.

oh dea it came in foggy then sunny and verymild but it is Southern C alifornia after all inthe 70s today so it will be awful going out? I sort of doubt that though

I think we had a lion here, although he is not roaring as loudly as they had predicted.

So the lion is roaring. We had a lot of wind here today as well and snow, rain, freezing rain, and even a little bit of sunshine

I am in North of China, and our Chinese Solar Terms also said, March starts with "the waking of insects", it means insects and hibernated animal are going to wake up for new year. and it is sunny at morning, and blue sky, just a little bit of cold, no reports for rain, it will be soon warm and cozy.

That is interesting, the waking of insects. No danger of that here yet as there is lots of snow on the ground.

@AnneEJ yes, Chinese traditional culture is much more interests, and The Waking of Insects never means that we are in danger of vicious insects attack, it is just one of Solar Terms of all year in our China.

@AnneEJ The green grass on Christmas day was different. I wasn't made in the USA so without the white it just didn't seem right. Still winter has a way of making you feel it is never going to leave.

I have not seen the weather report for tomorrow, but I am hoping for it to be a mild lion. Nothing too serious, but just enough that I can look forward to a gentle lamb's day for the end of the month. Stay safe in the storm.

Although I've heard this I've never taken much notice of the weather at the beginning and end of March. We often have some very hot days in March although it's officially autumn.

I too, have always heard this saying. So far this morning for us, it has come in like a lamb however this afternoon and evening everything will change as a cold front pushes through and will trigger strong gusty winds and thunderstorms. Is there a saying for when you experience both lion and lamb in the first 24 hours of March?

No, but there should be as that is the way it is here today. Sunny now, blizzard coming tonight. Maybe the Scripture verse, where it says, "the lion will lay down with the lamb", but I don't think that is talking about our weather today

I know these saying Lion or Lamb from a mother and kids club named Lion and Lamb. All mothers meet at a place with kids doing some activities for kids,making them to play together.Mothers can chat for a while as well. In my country Winter is returning back. It seems pretty colder now.

We also have these 'farmers' rules' in German. Sometimes they're true, sometimes they aren't. :-) For example: Green Christmas, white Easter.
