Today I am filled with worry.
Our newly engaged son is in the hospital this very minute, undergoing ulna nerve surgery in his left arm.
He had been experiencing tingling and numbness in his hand for the last year. He finally went to the doctor, who sent him to an orthopedic surgeon, who then sent him to a nerve specialist.
It was determined that he had broken his elbow. My son never knew that, although he played football, wrestled, and swam competitively in high school and college. The nerve must be freed from between the bone and muscle.
I am anxiously awaiting news from his fiancé.

I hope your son has a successful surgery. I've had a herniated disc in my upper spine and it caused a lot of weakness in my right arm to the point where I finally had to have surgery as well, it is a scary undertaking but well worth it if you get useage of your arm back.

@DianneN I hope all will be well. How long is the recovery usually for this kind of surgery.

@infatuatedbby About 8 weeks and then therapy. Maybe it will be sooner if we're all lucky.

I hope everything goes well. One of the things that always helps put me at ease is the amazing amount of skill surgeons these days have, and the amount of technology at their disposal. I'll keep you and your son in my thoughts tonight.

@DianneN Oh, I'm sorry to hear about your son's friend. That's such a shame, especially when it is something simple that probably could have been avoided.

@DianneN That is so tragic. Shouldn't there have been some type of safety checklist in place or something? Or maybe somebody else verifying the steps the anesthesiologist took as he went through his procedures? It breaks my heart when we have senseless tragedies like this that could have easily been avoided.

@moffittjc He forgot to turn on the oxygen or something similar. His friend was a vibrant and pretty young nurse.

Oh dear the poor lad. That must be painful. He must have a high tolerance of pain if he was not aware.
I know he has a good surgeon Dianne and in his gifted hands, he will help you son, I just know it.

My little finger in my left hand has been tingling for a year, the doc told me not to worry about it and I'm not. I'm very used to it. Hope your son does well during surgery.

Sending prayers your way. Nothing worse than being away from our kids at a time like this.

His fiancé texted every step. He FaceTimed us and showed us his open cast and sling. Hoping he won't have much pain. He will need therapy to regain the use of his arm, but he's young and in great shape, which will help. One of my mylot friends had the same type of surgery and has his beautiful muscles back.
