It is important because God is our Creator, our provider or everything and when someone has been good to you thanks and appreciation are expressed, Prayer is talking with God and He had provided the food so we thank Him for the food and those who cooked it and took the time to grow it etc. while asking Him to bless all who made it possible. In the nights so we can thank Him for taking us through another day and tell Him about our mishaps, thank Him for the day and the lessons learnt and ask Him to keep you through the night. I n praying I ask God to forgive me and help me to forgive others every moment as this is not easy and I tell Him about my little cares and issues too. I enjoy being in God's presence so I just love to pray and I do love Him so!

We are told in the Bible that we should pray incessantly and that we should be thankful. What would we have without God?

Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared, who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer.

Prayer is nothing but a "Thank You" for everything that you've got.
There are many who don't even have 1% of what you have.
I receive a short story with the title: "I cried because I had no shoes until I saw a man who had no feet"
One can despair about one’s wealth or situation, there is always someone poorer or less fortunate. So, you have endless reasons to be Thankful for.
Prayer is just a way of Thanking the Universe for everything that we have.
