Do you take interest in your country's politics ?

I know for a fact that some people in our country are totally unaware of who the Prime Minister is or for that matter who the Chief Minister of their own state is ! I personally feel that it is good to be aware of what is happening within your country and about the leaders who control your life in many ways..
What do you all think ? Is it necessary to know about politics and about the leaders of your own country ? or is it too much headache and bothersome to do so..

@LadyDuck Yes I understand, my daughter too lives in Switzerland and she too cannot vote, unless you are a citizen you cannot vote in most countries, I guess !..But Swiss politics must be pretty straight forward and free of any kind of controversies and corruption unlike our country's ..

For me, i think its an advantage to know what is happening in your country especially those who runs it. every voter like me should be at least informed and knowledgeable about the leaders in their country.

I agree, I also feel that politics in Asian countries is vastly different to what it is in the Western countries...In Asia Politics is a pastime for many. They speak about the leaders, criticise them and when it is election time there is a lot more interest ..

@abrielle28 In a way it is sad because a lot o time is wasted on trivial matters..Developing countries need good committed leaders to take it forward !

@kiran8 ...Our chief minister gets cars painted from black to other colors because he is superstitious, and makes his ministers also do that...pays for that color change..and tries to change the building because the believes in wrong vastu system, and holds yagnas ..spending crores.

If we dont take our politics seriously we will be colonized and invaded by another country in no time or we might end up experiencing a second Martial Law.

@alchemistrx Debates where candidates are pitted against each other is good to gauge , but in my country it is mostly speeches by the leaders which are boring and hate filled, hitting out at each other !

Politics and politicians have no ethics but a country cannot function without them. I also feel that unless citizens take an active interest , the politicians have a field day doing whatever they want. There is more awareness now among youngsters who do not hesitate to criticize and voice their opinion.

Everyone should know something about what is happening in their country. Even if they don't like politics, knowing what the issues are should be a priority...
Unfortunately, most Americans don't vote. That is a fact. There are almost as many reasons people give for not voting as there are people who don't vote. That doesn't make apathy right, though...
I will admit there are times I don't have any candidates I want to vote for, but there are always candidates I don't want in office... So I vote the ones I dislike the least into office...
It always bugs me when the people who didn't get out and vote complain about something the new administration does.... If those people want to complain, they should have helped choose the candidate they think will do the best job!

It happens here too, but I am sure your elections are better organised with less violence unlike ours. I make it a point to vote every time, but during the last general election, my name and entire family,s names were not on the list. When I went to cross check I was shocked to see that all the votes had already been cast.
Of course I complained and wrote to the election committee, not sure how far they would have taken it up

I feel it is necessary to know about our leaders before electing them. Because most of these leaders are selfish and power hungry. They want to rule us by dividing us. That is why they have drawn lines and borders across our mother earth and pitted us against our own brothers across the fence. Sometimes leaders with extreme madness even order us kill and destroy our own brothers across the border....We need to choose leaders with a sane voice and a broader vision for the country.

Absolutely, I agree with that. Most of our perception about other people and countries cone through the media rather than personal interaction or first hand experience. It is always better to know facts before taking any decision be it politics or in other matters

Politics is such a mysterious world that knowing or not knowing will hardly make any difference.

Yeah, but I'm not active in campaigning but I will vote for who is right and wrong candidate for me. I still wait for the next debate this coming april 20. but I fear it's going to be bias, because the network supports a certain candidate.
