The Secret of Earning With MyLot

Earning is about getting money (or other benefits) in return for what you give. MyLot is a social discussion site which shares some of its profits with its members according to how well their posts are received by other members. You cannot earn anything here unless you start by giving something which others think is worth receiving. Unless you receive what others have to give you by giving something in return, you won’t receive anything, either. _____________________________________________ “You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.-- Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet _____________________________________________ “The only gift I have to give, is the ability to receive. If giving is a gift, and it surely is, then my gift to you is to allow you to give to me.-- Jarod Kintz, The Titanic would never have sunk if it were made out of a sink. _____________________________________________ SO …. The only - and best - way of earning anything here is to be actively social ... to respond to and comment on other people’s posts and to actively discuss the topics that you post with others. _____________________________________________ “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you”. -- Luke 6:38, New International Version. _____________________________________________ End of lesson! There's NO big secret! Any other ideas? Want to disagree? Have I left anything to discuss?

I have always considered that the only way to use Mylot is simply treat it as what it is, which is a social site. All that is required is to come here and chat with friends, the earnings aspect will then take care of itself.

@JolietJake I would never use any other approach. This way the site is entertaining as opposed to being work related, so it suits me perfectly.

@owlwings I am inclined to agree because if we chase a monetary target it seems to be an arduous task, which is no fun at all.

That is very true, of course. Many people, however - and probably, unfortunately, those who won't read this or understand it if they do - come here simply to try to earn money. It is often only once they have been here for a while that they discover that the real secret is that the earnings are merely coincidental and that, by forgetting about them, one actually earns more.

I used a quote of Kahlil Gibran just yesterday in one of my blogs - Love your verses and your quotes you have shared as well as your LESSON! In order to receive we have to give over and over again, and then there is no guarantee we will get any in return.

I am fond of Kahlil Gibran and also of Rabindranath Tagore (but I didn't find a suitable quotation by him). I especially like the one by Jarod Kintz (of whom I have never heard!)

@Inlemay Yes, I do. I thought that the reciprocity take on giving/receiving was particularly relevant here.

@owlwings Jarod Kintz is more of a modern say'er or quote'er if I can call him that. He is a funny one - his quote above is actually saying his gift to you is that you gift back to him - duh? See what I mean

Very well said and I loved the quotes you shared. The quotes explain everything about ways to earn here and ways to earn in our life. Till we work hard or till we put in some labour, we cannot expect any fruits. Some newbies join mylot with the aim to make some quick bucks and when they find that it requires some hard work to earn money, they just become inactive and start looking for something else. I have observed since mylot started its second innings many newbies who joined with good intentions and remained active also in the beginning, gradually left the site.

Quite a few join and find that it is not for them but, on the other hand, I have seen several people say "I originally joined mainly for the money but now I am here mainly for the discussion and the earnings are just a bonus." That, of course, is the real secret ... but people must find that out for themselves!

@owlwings - Who are the ones who said that earnings are bonus for them? (Would like to know their screen names).

Once you become active and respond to others post. Than they know who you are and start to respond back.

That's exactly it. Unless people see you around and being active, they won't know you exist, and unless you are actually giving something they consider useful and worthwhile (even if it's just a good laugh), they won't visit your posts and give something in return.

@owlwings we should not expect of receiving.more than what we give. Or else..frustration will be felt

I agree. But still I earn little here although it is my fault. These last months it has been Summer where I live and I have been invited out several times. The rest of the time I spend in my garden

Oh dear! It's surprising how busy it has been for a 'non-discussion' since I posted it, then!

It's true the more you interact with others, you are better placed to earn more. This is by making discussion, responding to discussions of other mylotters and its even its interesting as you engage with others.

Yes, we actually 'earn' far more than money here. I might address that later.

I really like the quotes you used. I just like the fact that I don't have to be the one who initiates a discussion here at myLot. I like that I can throw my two cents into an already ongoing conversation because I've never been a particularly garrulous person. ( Garrulous. Just trying to use one of my high school vocabulary words in a sentence. My HS English teacher would be so proud of me. I remembered what she taught me! )

I'm glad the Kahlil Gibran quote resonates. I thought it was apt, too.

I find your argument very well explained, in fact they serve many people who still do not have extensive experience in Mylot. Something that seems logical to address social issues of common interest, it is difficult therefore take traditional ideas but we must globalize cultures and be active. Take this daily as toileting, working, brushing teeth, and enter Mylot. It is simple if it looks sharply

Thanks for sharing this lesson. I have no other ideas to add to yours. This is what i have been doing here. I post a discussion and then i make and make comments on other members discussions and interact with commetns made on my own posted discussion.

I think that the golden rule applies to a site like this "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you".

I don't want to disagree. In my own observation, myLot is like blogging, every blogger helps each other by sharing their posts, commenting on posts to get traffic from each other. They also put up link of their co-bloggers who have the same niche. It's like sharing is also receiving in some way.

Quite a fair comparison, though MyLot is much more 'conversational' than a blog usually is.
3 Mar 16
@owlwings Yes. myLot is more into building conversation and relationship with its members. The difference with your typical blogging comment and sharing is that, blogging makes people connect less because there are quite a few generic comments. Unlike here at myLot, the comments changes for every person.
